You can pretty much always get herring from the rocks at the ocean end of the cut. Plenty of whiting along the beaches & there's pretty much always a few tailor floating around if you fish early morn or late evening. If you have the gear for it there's lot's of sharks being landed from Rockingham jetty right up the coast & there have been some decent pinkies coming from ASI groyne over the last few days.

Getting some nice tailor off the beach at Singleton ATM. Worth a shot.

I don't use them but yes maggots will work just fine as bait. I usually just use a baitchaser rig sweetened with little bits of prawn or I use green tube down onto my hooks. All the usual methods will work once you berley them up. During the cooler months I usually get plenty of gars down there as well.
Best way to get into the sharks is to wait for the easterlies & send out a whole tailor or mullet under a balloon. You'll still catch them without the balloon to get right out there but the guys that have been really cleaning up on them have mostly been ballooning. Most seem to be getting them late evening or in the wee small hours of morning so don't forget to have a lumo stick to drop into your balloon so you can see it out there in the dark. |

Beach fishing leaves me in all sorts of pain but the rewards are worth it when it all comes together. Me & a couple of mates regularly do overnighters up near Cervantes & almost always clean up on big Tailor, Skippy, small sharks & Mulloway. Throw in the occasional flathead & as many whiting as you could ever hope for along with a few big bull herring & it's about as close to beach fishing heaven as you can get. Lots of big DohDohDohDoh (5ft+) to deal with at times though.
