Looks alot like a gobbleguts. Not sure if thats a real name or nickname, but did you catch it near a wall or in shallows?

Gobbleguts is a nickname Bremmer, the proper name is Southern Cardinalfish. I don't know what the one in the photo is but I'm pretty sure it's not a gobbleguts, the head is a bit too pointy.

Fair enough, I spend more time lookin for the bream, probably why I'm not too accurate. Anyways, whatever it is, it's not something you should target!!!!!!

I've spent alot of years looking at subtle differences in aquarium fish so I'm fairly good at picking minor differences. That said, I could be wrong, wouldn't be the first time. Looks like something I'd be tempted to use as bait.

I didn't catch them they are shop bought feeders the chick there couldn't tell me they were just mixed in with my 50 firetail I bought for my saw-shells.

I was going to say we called them Agassizis Glassfish when we caught them at the local creeks many years ago. Is that the common name elops?

Yes Peter one of them Olive Perchlet the most used common name.
Named after Louis Agassiz the father of 19th century fossil ichthyology among other things.
