Left or Right Handed

Hi A I am considering buying my first baitcaster. All my current comp rods have 1000 size reels and I cast with my right hand ( i am right handed ) and wiand with my left. I was informed under good authority that you should use your strongest hand to wiand with a baitcaster. This than means I should cast with my right and than switch hands to hold the rod with my left. I tried it today but it just felt strange to use the other hand. Just wonder what other people do.

I use left handed reels whether it is a baitcaster or spinning reel (I am right handed). I reckon it's always best to use your strongest or most coordinated arm to control the rod so you have more precise casts and better control of your lure. Your less coordinated arm/hand can simply wind the handle. It's much easier when you don't have to switch hands too.

Im the same as you mate, cast with right & wind with left,to me everything seems to flow, you cast with right release bail arm & start winding with left in one motion no swapping the rod from one hand to the other.I suppose it comes down to personal preference no right or wrong way,all the new spinning reels I've purchased are set up for right hand wind so when a youngster gets his or her first combo most will start using it set up for RHW..as for BC reel i got shimano curado got it from US

Leechy,
Does your informant happens to work in the tackle industry?.if he/she does, most probably theyre trying to sell whatever in stock.see, most tackle shops didn't/doesn't have the lefty bc.for some reason the lefty seems didn't exist 10 years ago.i remember looking to buy my first bc reel back then and were told tut you can get any right handed reel converted for $1000.
To me,whom is a lefty when it comes to winding hand, just doesn't seems and feels right to wind with the right hand at all.luckly I'm preety up to date bck then with Internet and happens to stumble upon a few website in the states that sells lefty bc reels.from then onwards,it's history......
Even now, sometimes I still do asked the store person if they have the lefty version of whatever I want and most would reply that no and comes up to a conclusion that it is not available, especially game reels.
So,most of my reels do comes from the states and for game reels, accurate is my only choice.

No he does not work in the industry, its my brother, but he may as well, he would be know to many people on this site and has years of experience, knows his stuff, or more than what I do. He uses left hand spin but right hand baitcaster. He was the one that got me into left hand reels ( hand me downs ). I agree that maybe if left hand baitcaster were around more earlier on they would be more common. I am overseas for work and can pick up the Shimano Scorpion XT left or right for US$210.00, I just seems like a good deal. It wi actually be used on bass.

Being a predominately right hander I wind spin reels with my left and prefer to wind bait casters with my right.
If u cast with ur right and wind with ur left on a b/c u still need to re position the reel in ur right hand to commence the retrieve so the smooth transition is lost anyway.
But of course it all comes down to personal opinion and we should all give the other hand a try and see what feels best.

There are two types of lure fishermen(women)... Those who fish left handed and those who will fish left handed
