Bream Competion - Local Area

Hi all. I am a member of a local fisging club (Club Old Bar Fishing club) and we have been running a live bream section for years. We do this for a variety of reasons including the shear joy of putting 25 year old bream back in the water, great fun etc etc.

We are covered by the clubs insurance (yet to be tested) whilst competing in our designated outings.

Anyway we want to run some bream comps where anyone can fish but our concern is the ever present insurance issue.

We have a great set up as the owner of Bohnock Bait and tackle has all the parking and weigh in areas we need. There is a double boat ramp as well.

Has anyone run little comps like this and if so what did you do re insurance of competitors. Can we run them like the Gamma comps where the boat owner is responsible to provide insurance details before they can compete.

We really want to give this a crack as there are lots of kids and father son combos who are keen but not at a level like the Bets or ABT.

If you can shed some light please do so. I know if I go to an insurance broker they will want us to purchase a zillion dollar policy.

Anyway
If you can help - thank you
Old Bar Boy

Make sure each boat has its own insurance. Have the owners bring the policy on the day.

Sell the non-members a day membership. You have an entry fee for the comp for members and a slightly higher rate for non-members. The difference being the day membership. If you compete in Triathlons there is two prices one for the Tri Australia members and one for the nonmembers.

Even better get them to buy a full years membership, my bet is it isn't much anyway. Will be good for them and hopefully the club.

Mind you, someone should check if the insurance for the club goes up if you have more members - because the day members will count. This will affect the price you need to charge for the day membership.

OBB,
Drop Ian Sewell an email. He ran WABT with myself and organised our insurance. Your biggest issue is getting insurance for the weigh-in area as this is an area you are responsible for. Ian can help more.

Option 1: Hold the 'weigh in' in international waters

or.....

Option 2: Hold it under high tide mark...

I just thought I'd say it

Hi mate,

Not sure if you know Shaun chapman? He used (still does maybe?) live locally and ran a couple of bream events on the manning. I'm sure if you could get in touch with him he'd point you in the right direction.

Failing that, maybe if you could get ABT affiliation then you could fall under their insurance banner?

Cheers
Dion.
