Newbie line question
we does everyone use low pound line ie: 4-6lb. i could understand if you dont use a leader as it would be easy to see but when your using a leader you can make it low lb.
i have 8lb playtapus braid on and i now think its too much as everyone seems to use 4lb. If i used a 6lb leader would it be alright. is the lower better for casting |

Don't be mislead that "everyone uses 4lb" theres nothing wrong with 6lb or 8lb or 10lb.......it all depends where your fishing, oyster racks, snags etc

Most people use 4lb for breamming, main reason being that the 4lb actully breaks around 8-9lb, and the thin diameter aids in casting those little jigsheads. it also has zero stretch thus giving the angler a better 'feel' as to whats happening at the business end of the jig, you can feel the slightest tap.
I also use Fireline in 14lb for flicking bigger jigs and softies into gutters and washes along the beach. FATMAN |

It is fine if the loss of potential casting distance isn't a problem in your fishing locations. For example Docklands in Melbourne is an area where landbased anglers rarely cast more than 2-10 metres. The structure is close and the fishy water is right at your feet. mant casts are just drops and swings.
But transport yourself to a shallow flats situation and cast distance might become all important, spooky fish in a wide, open setting might need all the cast distance you can muster.
