R.I.P Modern Fishing.

As a long time reader, subscriber and collector of Modern Fishing Magazine I can sadly advise the demise of what was once a great mag.

I bought the March 2012 issue today and how sad it is to see this great mag go downhill.

Gone are the days of all the great contributors. Starling, Atkinson, Harrison, Miller and Steptoe to name a few. They have just disappeared from the pages.

The mag was keeping up with all the trends and latest innovations and tackle but sadly has gone backwards.

The latest issues "cover story" covers the basics of "fishing with soft plastics" and "soft plastics latest techniques" which includes advise such as "rigging your plastic straight on the hook is important" !!!!

They are now also bringing back images of cleaning tables filled with dead fish with valuable advice like "If you intend baking fish whole then you need to gill, gut and scale the meal" I thought the days of dead fish in magazines was long gone??

Gee, thanks thats $7.95 well spent.

it's now about equal with the same B grade free magazine that it comes with.....some of the stories are even copied and just edited with different wording. Absolute crap.

Yep, the cover designs even look the same as those publications.

I had a subscription to Modern Fishing for a year but decided not to renew it. I found the content wasn't really engaging. I'd flip through the pages and put it down. I read Fishing World now and think its much better.

Stopped getting Modern Fishing about 2 years ago, it was just always the same. Nothing was really interesting and there were TOO MANY ADS !

It's a shame as i have almost every Modern Fishing magazine from 1980 to 2010, some guy i bought my old boat had them laying in his shed and wanted to get rid of them, awesome pick up

I don't mind http://www.fishingwild.com.au/ Great articles and pictures.

But I get alot more out of online forums than I do in mags, plus not a fan of the amount of advertising the mags have. Sure ad's are important, but not it makes up about 1/4 or more of the content.

Looks like they've rehashed it to cater to the average weekend line dangler.
I agree, for the finer points and latest ideas, websites like this are the way to go.
