Reel Service Required. Daiwa?
Hi guys,
Need some advice please. I recently puchased a second hand daiwa reel and was told the reel was 9/10 mechanically but when I got it I realised there is a grinding sound/feeling which I cant really live with. I contacted seller (who is not from here btw) and he said he will refund it. However I asked if he was interested in going halves in a service and he agreed as long as it doesnt go over a certain price which I can understand. So my question is where is the best place to take reel for a service..... is it Daiwa? How would I get it there and could anyone let me know how much a service is worth? The reel is an advantage 3500. cheers

Take it to your local tackle shop that stock Daiwa and they will send it back for you or you can send it directly back to Daiwa yourself.
A standard service should be less than $50 but there could be something wrong with it by the sounds of it! |

thanks chief. I have never had to service a reel (never had one long enough lol
) so I am unaware of process.also I am assuming one would service their reel because it is running rough? the reel feels smooth and seems in great working order apart from this minor grind. Dunno if this is a common thing with daiwas? cheers

It's normally a good idea to service them fully once a year (either yourself or through Daiwa) and anytime you get salt water in it. Could be rough for a number of reasons, hard to tell without looking at it. |

If its only when there is tension its probably just the bearing in the line roller. I believe they are pretty cheap. I have a few reels (couple of Daiwas and and Abu cardinal) I need to replace the line roller bearings on. Will get round to ordering them eventually but now that I've worked out what it is and the line roller still turns I can ignore it.

My daiwa advantage 3000 suffers the same problems (if you could call it that). It works flawlessly, drag and everything is fine. But when you hold the reel itself with no tension on the line and wind, you feel this ever so subtle kind of grind which you wish it ain't there. It doesn't effect the performance so i'm learning to neglect it but you know, if it could be absent and a 50$ service is all that's required i'd be willing. However, i have heard many stories where a service can cost quite a bit!

But like saez0r said, reel seems to work very well other than that. Thanks for replies guys. I actually really want this reel. Seller has offered a refund but I am trying to work out a deal in servicing with him. However if service is too much then it's pointless putting in the bucks when a new reel can be purchased for similiar dollars.

I bought a sol for 190 and it grinder abit. So I sent it to daiwa directly thinking it would only be $38 plus postage. But no they replaced about 3 things and costed about $128 I could have got a new one and it still didnt feel as good as a new one. If I knew that i would have just got a new one dam it.

Yeah i guess thats the risk you take buying second hand. So im hoping my issue is minor as the dude said it was mechanically 9/10.
![]() Anyway the main issue for me is i dont know how to describe the problem. If you would call it a grind? Or something else??

If it makes any grinding / growling it's a 5/10 mechanically unless it's a saltiga cause there ment to growl... If the seller was honest mate he would of told you there was a problem.. I have never sold a dodgey reel on a website they are always mickey mouse...
What size is it?
