berkley vanish??

How does berkley vanish campare to other flurocarbon leaders?? i just brought some 8lb for a heavier leader for around structure and boat moarings and im just wondering how it compares to the more expensive brands. for a cheaper leader i would expect a little difference in quality to the sunline im currently using but ill have to see how it goes! just want some feedback.

thanks (:

Which Berkly Vanish are you talking about.

There is a Berkley Vanish usually in 250yd spools for around $20 that is flourocarbon fishing line. It is ment to be used as main line if you are fishing flouro straight though. I use this as cheap leader for the kids and have had no problems with it.

There is a Berkley Vanish flourocarbon leader which comes in a 50yd spool for around $20 that is specifically a leader. Flouro Leader usually has a harder outer coating on the line to make them more abrasion resistant. I prefer to use Sunline FC Rock.

I used to use vanish and it is okay for a cheap line but does not compare to fc rock IMO. Just stay clear of the sensei stuff, its horrible. I still keep some vanish spare for when I run out of sunline.

I have used 10lb in the 250m spool as leader for years with no problems. It loves a slim beauty knot. I got some fc rock for xmas and have a little more confidence in it. Vanish is on shelf at big w for 14 bucks. Its very supple and holds a good knot.

If you are fishing top water you want to be using mono rather than fluro because as you have picked up it sinks.

Yeh, I saw some 4lb Vanish in Big W aswell for $15 and since it came in a big spool I thought what the hell and just grabbed it as the price was right. I;ll have to say thought that 4lb vanish has got to be one of the weakest lines I have ever experienced when it comes to making a strong knot. Okay so I i've tried the slimbeauty, improved albright, kaneit, double uni, 5 turn surgeon and the twisted leader knot. All of which were tied against 10lb Castaway and every single knot I could brake with my hands. On closer inspections with the knots I would always find that the braid would still be intact and it was always the mono that broke. I prefer to use 4lb FC Rock and have tried all of the knots listed above with it and have never been able to break the knot with my hands, also the good abrasion resistance with the sunline makes it for me a far superior leader.

I stopped using it ages ago. Weak as

Cost me few fish and lures. Wouldn't touch it even if it was in the "The cheapest" bin...

Evidently cheap for a reason. I have used it a bit fishing for golden trevally in 12lb but with a very forgiving drag setting. Very heart in mouth stuff lol

never really had a problem with it, other then its P!ss poor abrasion resistance.. admittedly i now use FC rock but mainly for the increased abrasion... I have landed a few decent bream using vanish and tons of rats.. good for a starting point

ive got the one in 6lb and boy does it live up to its name - "vanish". Strike abit harder - vanish, get snagged on a little twig in the water - vanish. lol

i wont buy it again after i finish this spool
