BOCA Bearing kits.

Going through the BOCA bearing site and just unsure on what a Complete Kit consist off?

E.g. Chronarch D - Complete set.

Are these just replacing the current bearings, or are there extra bearing included?

Most of time it's replacing ALL the stock bearings in the reel with Boca's.
I think most people would be better off with just replacing the spool bearings.

For Daiwa reels in particular though, you can replace some of the bushings with BB's. For example, levelwind bushing, handle knob bushing, etc.

The Cores 100MG only has the Spool bearing kit.

I was hoping to overhaul it as it only has 4+1 bearings...

Is this because it has bushings instead?

The Metanium is pretty much the same yet has 6+1, would you know why this is and where the 2 extra bearing are - I'm thinking for the knobs?

Thanks.

You can upgrade almost any fishing reel bearing/replace almost any bushing provided you know the dimensions. It doesn't necessarily have to come in a kit...

You can try to find schematics of the reels and compare the two...

Hey mate,

I just bought some from their site for my Revo S.
When i searched for the reel model, their "kit" only had 2 bearings. One for the side plate and one for the tension knob. Then i remembered that i saw a video on youtube from Boca where they showed how to replace the bearings in the same reel. I saw there was a URL to the complete kit they used which had 3 bearing - side plate, tension knob and spool. Besides that link from youtube, i seriously couldn't find a way to get to the complete kit using their searches.
If you want casting distance, you'll need to replace the spool bearing also. I tested my reel out over the weekend and it's awesome! Makes a huge difference with the only downside is that the ceramic bearings are noisier. You'd need to adjust the settings on your reel since the bearings are a lot smoother. I used to run half the brakes on my Revo but now i need to use all of them with the upgraded bearings. The spool spins so free that it would backlash with the lure in mid-air.

If you can't find the complete kit on their site, check with Shimano on the exact dimensions and just order each bearing individually.

Fishing with mates over the weekend, my baitcaster casting the same distance, using the same rig as their spinning set ups. I was pretty surprised, plus i'm a baitcaster noob so i'm even more impressed :P
Before the upgrade, with the tension knob loosened all the way, the spool would spin for about 18 seconds from memory. With the upgraded bearings it's close to 50 seconds.

Some of the bearings and the kits are price prohibitive, however if you can get ceramic or hybrid ceramic bearings in a baitcaster thats when your in the business!

Replacing say 7 to 11 BB's in either the ceramic or hybrid would usually instantly cost more than the reel itself, however would make servicing of the BB's obsolete and you would never ever ever need to worry about oiling or getting play in them from wear!

I know when we replaced cartridge bearings in roadie wheels with the pure ceramic type, we would hear all sorts of praise with smoothness, no maintenance issues and overall better use, however only the tightest of lycra wearing - coffee sipping individuals would be able to afford it...

I know if I had the option (spare $$$) to replace bearings in my reels it would be spool bearings in bait-casters with ceramic and if possible the handle shaft bearing (non IAR / if equipped with a support bearing) with a hybrid; in a spin reel it would be both handle bearings with ceramic, the rotor / spindle bearing with hybrid and the line roller with a pure ceramic if there were ones that small (haven't checked lately?)...

To replace my spool, tension knob and side plate bearings with BOCA ABEC 7's, it cost about $55 delivered from the US.
The same day i ordered, they send another email out for half price off everything for some thanksgiving sale

I might just start with spool bearings for now.

See what other benefits I can get for the core.

Does anyone reckon it'll make much of a different with a yumeya spool instead?

Thanks for the detailed replies everyone.

I know that you can get hyper custom spools for the Abu Ambassadeur 1500CAIR & 2500CAIR that I have in collection - these spools are like a few grams lighter than OEM, but paying $150 for a lightweight spool with a Ti axle is a bit steep for an extra meter or so of casting ability...

Would say stick with hybrid ceramic or full caramic bearings and the OEM spool as its the bearings that will give you better results...
