Need some reel/rod advice.

Hey guys, i have recently booked a fishing trip with my dad for christmas, where going big game fishing, mackeral, marlin, gt, yellowfin tuna etc.

I was just wondering what rod/reel would suffice for everything, i want a spinning reel as i already have several overheads.

I have a budget over just over $1000 and in this i would really like rod/reel/line and mybe some trolling lures etc

I havnt had much experience on gear like this so any help would br greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your time guys

Hmmm. Thats a good budget.

Depends what type of fishing your doing.
Are you casting from a boat or trolling.

I think your better off getting 2 combos that are more suited for each style rather than trying to find 1 rod/reel to do it all

Check out the SW series Twinpowers mate, fully waterproof body and they are going for some ridiculous prices due to clearouts. If not, a Saragosa for $300 with leave you plenty of money for braid, an awesome rod and a few lures. Just some ideas....

That's a fairly big ask for under 1k. Good quality spinning gear, that is capable of holding up against all those species is goin to be expensive. It'd be well worth looking for a second hand stella 20000, and maybe a terez rod.

Well i have overhead reels for trolling, i just want a spinning for throwing around poppers and big plastics and other lures etc.

I thought about spending more but i realized i will only be using it for that one weekend and then not really ever again lol well maybe every now and again so i dont want to get the best gear.

I was thinking of a shimano Saragosa or maybe even an Okuma Salina, and im getting 450m of 65lb power pro, but i really have no experience with rods of that size, im looking at a rod that will be comfortable casting 110gm+ lures and nothing really comes to mind haha.

reel n rod combo

Okuma salina 11 combos are available for aprox 380 for the spin model, reelhas drag presure of 15-20 kg roughly and can hold aprox 300 m of 37kg braid (16000 sized reel). For $1000 you can get two and have change for jigs, poppers etc

Yeah, I reckon go the 6500 catalina. They are discounted at the moment. I have the 4500 size and Im impressed with what it can do.
I have seen the cat+demon blood combo online from an Adelaide store

I reckon you should check out the terez rods and the largest size of saragosa. Load it up with a heap of fins or power and you should come in under budget. Or, double your budget that's what I'd do

Personally, and I know people will disagree, but I wouldn't use any reel other than a stella, maybe a saltiga dogfight/expedition/s-extreme with a drag upgrade, if I were chasing marlin, GT's and big tuna. I know that saragosas, twinpowers and catalinas are built tough, but if you're going to catch all those species in one weekend it's going to put a hell of a lot of stress on your reel. And besides, if you did get a stella or saltiga, you'd have an excuse to go do the same thing again, because there wouldn't be much point in buying an expensive reel if you're not going to use it right?

The Biomaster SW or the Spheros are worth a look.
Rod wise I would be looking at the T-Curve Revolution series.
