Dawia Aird or Shimano Symetre

Hey Guys, for Christmas, I'm paying off a few debts and looking to set up a good lure combo, right now I am gonna get a Pfluegher Trion 2-4kg. So my question to you is, the Dawia Aird or Shimano Symetre 2500? For performance what do you think? price difference worth it? I'll be paying $120 for Aird or $150 for Symetre.

hey mate you shouldn't have to pay that much for either, but I think you will find that the symetre is a better option. Personally, i'd match it up to one of those new raider plastic rods...but its all up to you. I bought a symetre when they first came out and although I have upgraded since I always remember how good the symetre's drag was for an entry level reel Also, with the one piece bail arm the line didn't get caught unlike the Sahara (reason why I went the symetre at the time). Don't forget to shop around though as I have seen stradic fi's going for $150 clearout, much better than both reels you mentioned.

Thanks for the advice, Squidgy. Already looked around local fishing shops and couldn't find any Stradic fi's left. I liked the aird but if all the advice is like yours ill go the symetre.

Branch out a little sure it's great to buy local but at the end of the day you could be saving heaps. I'd take squidgy's advice with the stradic fi's.

On the other hand a samaki stitch 4-8lb light for $99 and an arid $109 would be a nice budget combo. Check out DohDohDohDohDohDohDohDoh or some other bigger tackle shops that have that sort of gear.

I just bought a stitch today and love it. It has the same guides as the raider soft plastic but the difference is it is a better blank, hard eva grips, 2 piece for travel, and a very nice finish!! Trions are a great rod but for the same price you can go a step up with shimano and samaki.

Hey,

My symettre has copped a flogging over the past 3 years, serviced once and is normally on the first rod I pick up. Great value for money.

My next reel will be an Aird, as a mate in a tacklestore pointed out that you get 2 spools, 1 normal and 1 the next size up. So if i were to purchase a 2500 I'd use the normal 2500 spool for racks and flathead and the 3000 if i wanted more grunt in the racks and for snapper. Sounds great value to me!!

The best thing to do is to go down to the tackle store and have a feel of the combo's within your price range. Then pick the one that best suits you. And if you find a really good combo thats better than the others but is just a little bit out of your budget, then make a deal with the shop or wait a little longer until you have enough money. Because there is no point in getting 2nd best if you can get 1st.

Just make sure you check out all the possibilities before you go buying something.

Aird, the drag system is much nice and seems to last better (my opinion ) 9 ball bearings and it's super smooth for $120, comes with a spare spool ( a 2000 size and 1500)

Bream 611 Spin Spin 2.08m / 1pc 1-9g 2-4kg -
http://www.DohDohDohDohDohDohDohDoh.com.au/index.cfm...roduct_id=8278

and

SY 1000FJ 5.6-1 140yds/4lb -
http://www.DohDohDohDohDohDohDohDoh.com.au/index.cfm...&product_id=87

Braid - Super PE 6lb PE 0.6 150m -
http://www.DohDohDohDohDohDohDohDoh.com.au/index.cfm...roduct_id=3962

Thats my pick anyway Should handle your bream fishing with ultralight lures well, but also be versatile enough to throw bigger jigheads for flatties/jew. 6lb super pe is quite thin and breaks well above 6lb (just in case you hook a monster haha)

I know K-Mart a little while ago were selling out of their Shimano gear and the Symetre 1000 were $179 down to $125 then down to $60, then down to $45 and the last two were snapped up here at Southport for $25 a pop... The guy that got them didnt want to share - didnt blame him but he beat me by a hair to the cabinet and placed 'dibsie's'...
