rod mods?
how ugly could things get if i removed the butt grip of a split grip rod and moved the reel seat and the grips top and bottom of that to the butt of the rod? have a cheap rod i dont overly like the look of and feel like doing something fish orientated with perths weather the way it is.

hey mate,
there are a couple issues of doing what you want. 1. When trying to move the reel seat down, you will run into problems regarding actually freeing up the real seat fromy against the blank, without doing damage to the blank and damage to the reel seat. 2. On the basis you did free it up, depending on your foregrip, you wont be able to slide it down the blank and the blanks diameter increases towards the butt. So if your foregrips openign where the blank comes through is snug against thet blank, you will find it hard to push it down further unless you widen it. So it would be a pretty hard task to do without damaging anything mate. Ive changed grips but ive had to pretty much destroy the reel seat in the process of doing so. |

1 + I agree.
They make rod's from the bottom to the tip, not the other way around so managing to remove the grips and the seat etc and then figuring a way to seat these again would be an absolute nightmare or very very messy! Fitting new grips / winch seat is manageable to an old rod, however never expect that it will be 100% like factory... |

i dont think this rod came from a factory, more like a tin shed. might think about it over 6 beers and then see if i still care for the rod enough not to partially destory it
