Breammaster now

I used to religiously go to Breammaster whenever I got on the internet. There were always great stories about fishing trips and about how to catch bream in different spots. Plenty of threads discussing relevant issues, asking relevant questions and providing advice. By 'relevant' I mean 'about bream' or bream fishing.

Now, I can take it or leave it. I often look at the first page of threads and see nothing of interest. The threads are all 'for sale' posts, or banter between Qld kids, or stories about fish that aren't bream. The experienced contributors willing and able to provide some real knowledge seem to have dropped off completely, except to appear every now and again to sell stuff. Of course, everyone has the same right as me to read and contribute to BM however they want, but it feels like the site has changed a little over the past 12mo from a real community of people sharing a common interest to something a bit less. Sure, there are more sponsors and probably more members, but the quality of the site has dropped off to me. Thoughts?

I tend to agree a bit with what you've touched upon. But I guess you do only get out of it what you've put in...?

Might pick up a bit now that the comps have finished for this season and more people are social fishing?

But I do agree there isnt as many How do I....type questions. Guess people are clued up and more knowledable then ever before.

I understand your pain, would me much better without the rats in the forum but the fish variety is what makes it great, if you don't like the Bass/jack threads simply don't read them that's what I do if i don't like a particular thread. pretty good forum otherwise so well done BM

i think what the "problem" with all the qld kids is the fact that breaming hasnt really been "established" here much. this is mainly due to the fact we have jacks and trevs etc. But the few that do love breaming are always keen for info. even if it means asking the same sort of questions over and over just my imput

I think there is still plenty of variety in what is being posted. This keeps it interesting. I spend a fair bit of time on here while studying, etc and I find there is always a good distraction

More and more people are getting into tournaments as well, which means less free information is being given. This used to annoy me but I completely understand it after spending HEAPS of time fishing. I've figured things out myself that have helped me land some good fish on tough days... Often tricks/places I don't want every one to know about. I reckon a lot of tournament anglers are at least a bit like this.

There are plenty of annoying posts though, I'll give you that. You can't always figure out which are worth reading and which aren't by the title. I bet a few people are reading this thinking 'what a waste of time'. OK, sorry, I'll stop typing now.

I agree with all thats been said above, but I've been on here for a bit over 18 months now and there were still sunny coast rats running riot then, the usernames have just seemed to change over that time, plus a few extras. Also yeah there does seem to be less "bream" related threads, but I guess that could be based on the fact that this is one of the most active forums around and people are gathering here to share info on all sorts of fishing purely because of the traffic this site recieves (because its such a great site ). I do also agree with the comment about a number of very experienced posters going AWOL as well, and that is a shame But what can ya do?

I suppose that everytime someone asks a simple question there are more than enough punters ready to step up and say "have you used the search button??" I reckon most questions have been answered on here before somewhere or some how.

I know it does get tiresome reading the same newbie questions, but we all gotta start somewhere.

I don't get on here much anymore because imo the site has changed. Plus I don't really have a passion for breaming anymore, to me it was a phase, I've caught bream on all lures, cracked the 40cm+ and done a few comps, so now catching a bream doesn't excite me like it used to. I mainly get on here for other fishing tips and news every so often if I'm just surfing the net. I got a heap out of the site when I first started breaming so I have heaps of thanks to the BM crew. I guess the site has a lot of new members now which brings a wider range of views and topics. My 2bobs worth
