Yamaha HPDI and unleaded fuel

I have a 150 V-Max HPDI on my Prostrike. It uses unleaded. I now find that no garage within 20 miles has unleaded, they now have only 10% ethanol blend and 95/98RON premium.

What should I use?

Tony

You can use e10 with the additive stabil. But personally I would be using 95ron.
HPDI's are a open loop ecu so you won't see any gains from running a higher octane fuel. 95 will burn a little slower, hotter and cleaner. The best thing you can do for that motor is run yamaha ring free at 8ml per 10L

I've had a Yammy 175 HPDI for 8 years & have filled it with Premium twiced. Both times it's clogged up the fuel intake & filter (or some other stuff happens that stuffs it up!). Have always used 91 unleaded & had that recommended & reinforced by Yammy dealers ......no to Premium! Makes them run to hot apparently. Anyway that's my experience. On normal cheap 91 unleaded it runs like a dream.

I always use premium on my 150 opti. i only ever thought that there was an issue with the ethanol not the 91 or 95 octane

E10 is hydroscopic meaning it absorbs water. Not real good in a wet environment. It also separates and doesnt store well, so not great for engines that don't get a lot of use. It's reall bad in stuff like chainsaws that you might not use for months on end, the water and ethanol corrode aluminum and will react with non alcohol safe hoses.

Avgas, has some extra additives to prevent vapor lock at low pressures (high altitude) and is usually 100ron, there is nothing to be gained by using a higher octane fuel without either more compression or more timing or both.

No don't buy avgas! Best fuel is 91ron regular unleaded but it is being phased out in some states. If it was me I would use 91ron, if 91 wasn't available I would use 95ron, 98ron then E10 in that order.
