New rods

Hi all,

I'm after a new rod or two. I want one for plastics and one for HB's.

Criteria:
- 2 pc.
- around 7 foot.
- 1-3kg or 2-4kg.
- Preferably under $150 each as they'd be used for yak fishing and would probably end up getting thrashed and swimming in the water at some point.
- SiC guides but i know this is out of reach with my budget unless there's some mega awesome sale.

I was flicking through the 2012 Shimano catalogue and saw the new Raider Soft Plastic and Raider HB rods. They look good so i'll wait until they're released which should be towards the end of next month - but if anyone else has any suggestions, please share

Cheers,
Chris

The Samaki Zing rods are worth considering.

I too have a Zing and they're great rods for the price, suited more to hards rather than plastics as it has a medium-fast action.

What model Zing do you have, there is a 2-6lb X Light Spin in the range.

Just read your signature, Doh!

Try the St Croix range from tacklewarehouse.com Prices are fabulous and shipping two rods is $39. I have two spinning and two casting rods. They also stock the Temple Fork Outfitters Spinning Rods by G Loomis for $99.

These aren't G Loomis rods. They are designed with input from Gary Loomis (the ex owner of Loomis).
Same as the Shimano Raider rods have input by Ian Miller - but they aren't Miller Rods.

Thats is why I said by G Loomis (the person) not GLoomis the brand. For the money they are a steel.

Shimano rods have not been up to scratch for a few years now. The new raiders are noodles. For a plastics rod you cant go past a berkeley dropshot. In a kayak the 6"6 2,4kg model is awesome, I wrestled a 92 cm flathead in lake conjola in my yak with one of these and have a new respect for it. For hard bodies I use a dropshot tournament pro 6"8 2,5kg. Both these rods wont break the bank. Kayak fishing and expensive gear can result in disaster which needs a bottle of rum to drown your sorrows.
