RCS daiwa spools
I am waiting to buy a 2004 DAIWA STEEZ and a 2004 DAIWA EXIST HYPER CUSTOM. I am going to put a RCS rolling hook keeper from http://www.plat.co.jp/shop/catalog/p...ok-holder.html
on both of the daiwa reels. And I'm going to put a RCS small cork knob on them, also an RCS spool on both reels. Now the RCS spools. http://www.japantackle.com/Tuning_pa...a_spinning.htm I am looking at the Daiwa RCS tuning metal spool 2004, the Red and Blue one's. And the Daiwa RCS Air spool 2004. At 35g(red and blue) and 25g(Hybrid) i was wondering if the 2 weight configurations would worry my reels much . I really want to make my reels as light as possible. Any feedback or help with my dilemma, also any feed back on the 2 reels would be helpful. I want to blood the steez with a SMITH BAYLINER METAL RF, and the exist hyper custom with a MEGABASS KIRISAME DESTROYER F1-69XKS. I hope your info can help me

G'day mate, nice reels you plan to buy!
Firstly I understand the need for the cork handles, but explain to me why you would want to replace a 2004 spool with the exact same spool? Those reels are already so light its not going to make much difference, and anyways its not all about going as light as possible, its balance. And those hook keepers, I would be worried about the balance changing, but its not like they are hard to take off if they are uncomfortable... |

They do have their up sides, say you have a 2500 reel but dont need the line capacity, buy a 2506 spool and you will drop some weight out of the rig. You can also downgrade or upgrade in the drag department, which to me is really here nor there for fishing estuary (smoothness of drag is much more important than actual stopping power IMO). They are also flashy, which is nice!

Sort of on topic. I find out amusing that people replace the one piece machined handles from DAIWA with RCS versions of the same size. Cheers Lee |

If it were me mate, I would buy the reels, use them first and see if you really need to make them lighter...
I wouldnt be spending another 200 bucks each reel before using them on upgrades that may not be needed or beneficial. |
