Rod Line Ratings

Gday

So what do the rod line ratings mean?

My shammy squidgy spin 70 says 2 - 4 kg. I understand about the casting weights....Does this mean that if I used say 10kg line and set the drag tight the rod could break?

And do they mean line rating or actually the force being exerted by the drag to not exceed 4kg?

Mate the line rating on a rod is only the recommended breaking strain of line you would use on the rod.
When fishing with braid you can use higher breaking strain due to thinner diameters in line.
In saying that though any rod will break under enough pressure with the drag locked.
