which is the thirstiest outboard motor

I have heard all about e-tecs and verado motors but no one ever talks about which is the motor to keep away from.

Which motor would you not buy and why?

3.5Hp isnt much to play with, to be honest I dont think it could get up on the plane. I have never see a motor that size do it.

A bit more info about HP range and boat application. It's (mostly) not just this brand or that.

Bender, You should be right with a tow in. . . .

Was probably aiming towards the 80hp-150hp.

2 stroke mainly as 4 stroke would be quite economical.

80-150hp? Sounds like you haven't chosen the boat yet?
2 or 4 stroke fuel consumption in the EFI models are that close nowadays - some 2 strokes being more economical. I much prefer EFI 2 strokes but application plays a part. Have a look at Mercury Optimax and Tohatsu TLDI. Where you are specifically with horsepower, the boat type, size, weight, application, estimated hours/year etc? would help to get you better information. My engine preference always leans to Japanese gear.
