I live in coffs and am wondering the same thing.
However I have caught a few now at night using plastics 7" jerk shads and excellent netting skills and only one on a squid jig with a spot light shinning in the ocean. All were at pig and bullocky (about 4km east of harbour). Inshore or land based I have no idea
