Catana + Sienna

alright guys, i need a response asap.
my father and i were browsing a certain site earlier on and were in need of a starter combo for a relative of ours,
we were thinking

Catana 802 Bream Spin 2PC 2-4kg
And A
SiennaFD 1000 Spooled with 4lb fireline
it comes to a total of 125$ inc the fire line, just curious, would you go the 1000 or the 2500. and does the 802 bream spin come with split grip or is it a long handle? and will it balance well? considering i have not seen what the 802 looks like i presume its similar to the softplastic version?

cheers in advance
jaydeo.

I have the exact same combo. The 1000 is the way to go as it's lighter and specs are almost the same i think. Yes it has a Split grip. I think it's well balanced. Good luck.

If its a starter combo, i'd go the 2500 size reel and it will have better line management than a 1000. Some 1000 size reels can be more prone to wind knots, especially if that person is starting out and new to fused/braided lines.

I'd also probably stick to a 7ft rod, but that could also depend on what/where you are fishing.

I have no experience with the rod, but i got one sienna 1000. I found it really light and good for breaming or when u need to do lots of casting. However, if you want to use it at groyne and jetty, i find that it takes quite a while to actually bring the fish in. So, i tense to lose fish more than when I use the 2500 size reel. So, depends on what you after. I like both sizes, as they are use for different situation/purposes.

Good luck. Sienna is really a very good starter reel

i had the original cork handle catana 7ft with a 1000. for the 8ft i'd go a 2500, just to get the most out of the extra possible casting distance. either way, perfect starter combo

haha its for neither of us mate, were deciding on the 602 with the 2500 which will leave us with $30 to spend on braid and some softies to give him a head start.

602 Is that a 6ft rod? I'd probably look at a 1000 reel for it if it is.

802 would be an 8ft rod I guess. A 2500 would likely suit better.

Is this a starter bream outfit or a starter general fishing outfit? Bank fishing or Boat fishing? 6ft is great from a boat but from the bank the extra casting distance available with a 7ftr or even an 8ft might be more useful.

Most of my rods are 7ft, I find it a good compromise.

I bought this combo years ago and asked if I could get the 1000 instead of the 2500 and reckon its a great basic rig. I've always run 4lb fireline off of it. Pat.

Catana's are good rods mate, caught the fish in my profile pic for me although it kinda died in the process. If he is starting out I would definently recommend buying one of those soft plastic kits to start his collection. Buy the ones with the dvds, there used to be a good Berkley kit for around $30, came with heaps of plastics, jigheads, a lure tray to keep it all contained and had a dvd with all the basics. Also I have seen a squidgy one with a dvd aswell, might be worth a look. Hope this helps and I hope you get him/her into some fish.
