considering a loomis

despite what i have said in the past regarding loomis component/build quality issues im considering getting one because i have the opportunity to get 1 insanely cheap. i can get basically any model i want. so which model in 1-3kg would suit ultralight plastics. nothing shorter than 6'6 please. ive been told the dsr8200 is worth a look. also what reel would you recommend on your choice. cheers YD

Once you have fished with a Gloomis it is hard to pick up any of your other rods, there is just something about them. The DSR8200s is an awesome bream rod!!! They have rectified there bulid quality issues as I believe they shut the factory down for 2months to get everything up to scratch again .As for reel to match up it depends on your budget but you wouldnt put anything lower than a Stradic on such a good rod. 1000 or 2500 size is the go.

I think the 8200 is regarded as the allrounder. In a breaming DVD (Hard copy) Micah Adams says if he was to own one rod only, it would be the 8200, but for specific purposes (ie hard bodies, plastics and so on) then he'd have a different rod for each. I've had the 8200 and its a great rod. Got a bit tired of dealing with it in a one piece as I'm land based and havig to out it in and out of the car is a pain compared toa 2 piece. The 8200 does come as a 2 piece, but its about $80 more (i think). Have heard only good things about the 820 and I think there is a tread in here somewhere listing all the bream style loomis rods and detailing their qualities for different forms of fishing. Might have been Shauno who authored it .....

Recently I was looking to upgrade to my next 'better' rod and sought advice for this through the SA section - was considering a Nitro or a T-curve. I have been using a Stradic 2500FI and sought a rod to match. Shauno (whose name has been metioned in this thread) felt that the Loomis DSR820S would be a good allround rod that would match my reel and that I could use for all my breaming needs - hb's sp's and surface activity. I have since purchased said rod and now having got used to the slightly longer handle (than I have been used to) find it a delight to use. Hopefully I will have the time to give it the fishing that it deserves. Regards.

Have had a couple of 8200's over the last few years, different than most guys is that I wouldn't bother to get another. I have found the sr 842 to be a great rod for throwing around light weight stuff.

The sr 842 is the first rod I pick up each time I fish, I pick up the 8200 when I've lost the leader from the 842. When I lose the leader from the 8200 it goes in the rod locker never to be seen until I get home to retie everything.

The 8200 has been a very popular rod over in the past. I've only got mine because I wouldn't get much for it to sell 2nd hand.

I've got a DSR820 (4-8lb). It's great for HBs and SPs.
I've also got a couple of SR841s (2-6lb) They cast HBs and SPs a whole lot further and I can get the SPs to work a whole lot better.
The DSR820s match up well with a 2000 sized reel and the S841,781 and 782s match up well with a 1000 sized reel.

have to go glx.

tsr 862-2 or dsr 820s are both amazing plastics rods.

had a dsr820s blend and it was great but nowhere on par with the glx dsr. also had a custom sr842-2 and it was allright but the glx tsr862-2 is like that rod on steriods, better in every way.

I have been wondering which loomis to get for a while.
A SR842 or SR841.
Now it seems to be the DSR820 or 8200 are the go?!

I had the Sr 842 glx and found it perfect for hards... a joy to use. A little sloppy for plastics but still pretty Damn good. That's about as far as my experience goes with loomis. If I was big into my breaming I'd spend my cash on more of them

I just purchased the 8200 and paired it with a new Daiwa Certate 2004 Finesse reel, spooled with 5.5lb berkley exceed.

Never spent this much on a bream outfit before, I normally spent around $300 to maybe $400. But so far I am stoked with how good the combo is.

Only had it 2 weeks and a handful of fish (thanks to all the efing rain), but already loving it !
