Don't do it. Inox is the wrong product anyway. Lanox for wiping down exterior surfaces only. Particular oils and grease's for internals.
Inox will dissolve the grease and oils and wash away leaving err.....no grease and oil. smky |

Never use Inox/WD40 on reels.

I've been using inox to wipe down the exterior of my reels, and it's been fine to my reels. Not an inox bath though, but if you look at the inox marketing spiel, they say it's harmless to reels unlike wd40/rp7 etc.
I bought a cheap set of jarvis walker pliers from k-mart and after a fishing session (read dehooked two fish), it was covered in surface rust. Sprayed on the inox and after a few days it's stopped it from rusting further. http://www.inox-mx3.com/product_deta...D=APPLICATIONS

Agree with you on the WD40 but the inox is great for external application only. Bearing in the handle and roller bearing get the treatment after each session and they are perfect.
Lannox is too thick for bearings.

firstly...standard inox acts like an acid and gets right into steel and protects it...but...it eats certain handle knobs and weakens braid...its a protectant and not a true lubricant and we found that out the hard way in a machine shop...
inox lanox is a true lubricant and protectant and is the only thing i use on bearings beside poe refrigeration oil. and one more thing...wd40 does not damage reels as much as standard inox and my yakka mate sprays the whole reel mono included before he wipes his reel off with a dry rag ....i have looked at his line and it has not weakened anymore than normal wear would.... way back when we were not so enviromentaly (i know) smart we would wd40 the line on our overheads to lubricate it when we fought big fish on light line...

When i service my reels, i always throw all components in a Wax and Grease Remover Silicone Based first.
This gets rid of all oil/sand/dust/grit and grot and importantly contaminated grease. I then clean with Acetone. Ensure that the correct viscosity grease is applied in the correct dose. Take your time, use small amounts and always have the breakdown sheet with you. Personally, and this is coming from some1 with 15 something years in the Bearing Industry, never use Inox/WD on INTERNAL BEARINGS.Outside ones on the roller and handle yes its safe. Personally i only use it on the body after washing. What happens is that all the 'Inhibitor' solitifies and creates a sticky paste, great when its applied, but over a very short period collects all sand and dust that is stuck in the body of your reel. This effects all working parts by creating a 'skin' on all rolling motion parts, and will actually wear the parts down.Failure. It also reacts harshly with most Moly Based Greases, increasing the viscosity of the grease over time and actually decreases the lubricration properties of the grease. I use some 'Molykote' products, which are fantastic, they work for me and i have to clean the interenals less often. If it all falls apart, you can always take it into a Tackle Shop to get fixed ! Thanks.

i have an old 080 and 050 ceramic spool sigma's and had them for twenty years also two 2500 stradics my grandad taught me to only wash and wipe down with fresh water never use sprays he said the constant care and buff and wiping will keep a natural oil just from your hands and the bait used sounds strange but both my sigmas are used hard and apart from the regrease on the internals every 12 months both the sigmas look great work like they should especially for there age
