Certate or Steez?

Hey guys,

Didn't want to hijack another thread so I thought I'd ask some advice from those in the know.

I'm setting up a second light spin combo as my Samurai 201 is super fast and I've missed quite a few surface/H-B hits so I'm keeping this for SP's and getting a 203.

I've played with the Certate 2004CH hi-gear and the 2004 Steez and love them equally bit haven't had any "real time" experience with either as none of my mates have one.

Would love some feedback from those that may have either.

Cheers in advance.

Certates is an awesome build.
But you should take a look at the Emmeraldas Colossal.
A bit higher price, but I love it more then any other reel I own.
(Certate, Twinpower, Gekka etc)

Wanna stay at a 2K and the Colossal is a bit of an overkill for my liking being 30% heavier... Looks pretty though!

No I haven't BTF.

Mainly coz it has half the bb's, is 10% heavier than the Steez and it's a Shimano. I've played with top of the line, brand new Stellas in the size class and they feel less solid to me than evan a standard 2008/9 Certate.

Cheers YD, I know they're both great reels, I'm just tryin' to suss out from those that may have used either or especially both, is the Steez Tourney drag worth the 200-odd beans extra? Ta.

i've had a steez and they are ok but nothing great. i would go an '10 certate over one anyway.

the torny drag as far as i know is just an airspool and bearing. the bearings are ten bucks and the 2506's certates come with an air spool.

The new Twinpower 2011 actually has 9+1 bearings, same as the certate. It's pretty much a Stella that has fewer ball bearings, and a full aluminium body rather than the magnesium body on the Stellas. Other than that, they are very similar, same gearing, same basic design. I've had a 2500R (2004 not 2010 model), and I have played with the new 2010 ones too, they feel like a cheap toy compared to the Stella FD or FE. After using my Certate a few times, it began to feel a bit geary and it became strangely noisy (not the roller bearing btw). I've put my Stella 2500 (2007) through heaps of work, no service since and its still buttery smooth and dead silent, they are much tougher from my personal experience.

Anyway, out of the Certate or Steez, I'd go for the certate, much more advanced than the Steez and I reckon the smoothness is the same.

Have a look how many certates are being sold on various forums. Alot of people seem to have " as new" certates and don't want them any more hmmm
