G. Loomis TSR862-2
Hi all,
I'm a long time user of Tica Crisp-X rods, which are great little rods, but unfortunately no longer being made, and I recently to try a high-end rod to see how it would go in comparison. Following some good reviews by other members on these forums, I bought a new Loomis TSR862-2 in GLX, and tried it out last weekend. I liked its sensitivity, but I have some concerns that its too soft/slow actioned for SP's and HB,s and surface flick baits, although others on these forums have indicated its a good allrounder. So I started thinking maybe what I think is 'too slow' is another person's idea of 'just right'. Does anyone who owns a TSR862-2 have any similar concerns that its a bit on the slow side? Also, I've seen a lot of conflicting posts on this, but it seems that for HB"s you want a slower rod, and for SP's you want a faster rod. Is this the case? Seems like there are a lot of different opinions on this point. Last edited by silver; 11-03-2011 at 03:05 AM. |

I was hoping to see what some other owners of this rod had to say but looks like no one wants to share!
I own this rod, have had it for over a year now. I love mine, I use it mainly for throwing cranks and small hardbodies. Also used it for surface lures and found it great. Im not good with the technical side of rods. i.e I wouldnt have a clue about the action of this rod in regards to fast medium slow etc. I just know that when Im fishing hardbodies, I want a soft rod that will load up as the fish hooks up and continues to load up down the blank. If you get that.. ![]() Thats for a slow rolling retrieve. If I used a more twitch/pause style retrieve I would prefer something a bit more stiff so I could have more control over the rod tip and how much it moves. (Which is what I prefer for plastics) I think everyone has their own preference when it comes to rods. Just gotta be confident with your rod for whichever technique it is you will be using it for! Hope this helps.. and sparks a bit more interest from other TSR862 GLX owners out there! |

slow, hardly.
i wouldn't trade mine for anything... except another tsr862-2 with a k stripper guide. its the best thing i've ever fished with hands down, bar none, game over. it's THE perfect small hardbody rod, its a tad tippy for surface lures, but that could just be me. it slow rolls and works jerk baits equally well. even works plastics in shallow water very well, but maybe a DSR might be the go plastics, seems alot of people on here use that rod too. the blank is amazing. i went from a vapor 7 which had a medieval style torture device for a handle, but a very fast tip and great for everything to a 7 t-curve flight which felt like a fibreglass mess and good for getting rid of. to this rod and i'd buy a spare tomorrow if they discontinued it. I would actually love to get rid of the Recoil stripper and replace it with a K guide. The rec stripper is a real pain!

Do people think this rod is to slow to thow lightly weighted plastics (1/28). Am looking for a plastic rod around this length, does anyone have any recommendations?

Have been fishing this rod for a while. For me it is not really a SP rod, but will work on a slow roll retrieve. It is a fairly slow action blank, designed to fish small HBs, specifically for trout, hence the name. TS standing for Trout series. A great rod for its designed use.
