fish tags
Hi I've been wanting to get some tags for fish for a while so does anyone know where i can get tags and a tag gun from? and are they free or not if there not free how much do they cost?

It is best to join a sport fishing club in your area to access tagging programmes which are in affect in each state. Each state generally has tagging programmes which are involved in research of fish movements, lifespan, sexual maturity, etc.
In the club you will learn how to tag and record fish. It is important to learn these techniques as there has been a number of research studies employed looking at current "best" methods of tagging and releasing fish. It is a worthwhile expedition and the more people involved, the more the information gathered will help fish sustainable methods in the future......... well, that's the approach, but we know what governments can be like with information don't we? just ask the guys at the gladstone sportfishing club. they are an ansa affilliated club, depending on what you want to tag and where. they can supply all the gear though info fish or suntag. if you want to tag in awoonga you can register with me at the hatchery, and i will give the gear for free, but it is for awoonga only. awoonga's tagging is gladstone area water board hatchery information only, and is not affiliated with ansa or any fishing clubs (oh sorry.... the hatchery fishing club). cheers kurt Last edited by k.hutchby; 07-01-2011 at 05:12 AM.

you can get their details from the web site, or their meetings are on every first monday of the month at the vmr (next to the boat ramp). stocking 3000 into lake. callem on sunday so i will ask them then. im sure i have a spare dozen or so guns laying around somewhere.

righto.... just let me know i should be able to get some spare time for a flick.

Knowing that you live in Gladstone, I do suggest you look up the Gladstone Sportfishing Club which is ANSA affiliated and ask for a gentleman whose name is Gary Sturdy. He is a great mate of mine and will be of great help to you in obtaining the gear you require and also teaching you how to use it. He will also more than likely take you out fishing as that is what he is always wanting to do. He currently also works at Tackleworld. Just tell him Ghost or Michael Kan told you. I'll be in Hervey Bay in February, you may want to join him on a trip down. Michael
