New reel for my new custom rod

Hey all,

Getting my custom rod built up on a 1-4kg CTS blank (2 piece 7' rod), should be a very light rod deserving of a nice reel. I will be fishing for Bream with it of course on light line. Will have the new SS Fuji 'K' guides (assuming that we can get them in, the titanium ones are easy to find, but I want the steel ones), split cork grip and a very nice looking black reel seat with blue highlights - the blank itself is Cobalt blue.

So far contenders for a new reel to match are the new '10 Certate in either 1003, 2000 or 2004 size.

Previous model Certate Custom 2004

Stella 1000FD

New Luvias DA (colour would match) 1000 or 2000 size

Twinpower FC 1000

or stick with my current 1000f Stradic Ci4 (or a second one).

Don't really want to spend more than $500 (Stella I might make an exception, but since the FD is discontinued, I may find a cheap model). Since the rod is not finished yet, I can't really balance up the combo, but the weight of all the above all should suit within my own limits. I'm currently using the PE6 10lb Sunline RockFish, but might chuck on 6lb (PE3) on the new reel. Ideas? Pros/cons? Pretty much a time-old debate and not looking for too animated discussion as I'm not really loyal to either brand.

Weight difference between the two is almost nil realistically and at $50 for just the stripper guide in the titanium, it's just not worth it. I didn't know that aus has no stocks of the SS ones until well after I've ordered them.

Cheers for the responses so far, given me something to think about

i was more thinking about the resistance to corrosion and the like. i understand what your saying about the k guide prices, i nearly had a stroke when i saw the prices.

Young Jewels has a Sustain, and i must say for a shimano it is bloody awesome. i gazzilion times better than the Stradic ci4 he had.

Lol quick clean after a session if needed will solve the corrosion problem hahaha. I don't have any rods with titanium guides and only my old and abused rod has any real corrosion. Hoping to get the SS guides in soon, excited to have the K guides though! Not too convinced on the sustains as I don't feel all that much difference over the FI Stradic. I do love my Ci4 though as well

Also considering the previous model 1500 size Certate - does anyone have the weights for the old Certate and Certate Finesse? Not worried about the drag pressure (4kg vs 2kg) as either will suit me as I'm not likely to use the combo for anything other than flathead and bream. Having only ever used the 1000 size Shimanos though, a 2000 size reel sounds much bigger, but I realise they are a little different. I have the old model normal Certate in the 4000 size as well which I am finding to be fantastic whenever I can actually find something to use it on.

Go the Twin Power.

I have 3 of them and am very happy with them on my Millerods.

Reel

I would personally go for a 1500 09 certate. I have a couple of the 1500's and a 2506 finesse, and I personally prefer the 1500's. I don't know why it is, but they feel a bit smoother and more solid to me than the finesse models - it makes no sense really as they are basically the same reels. Might be all in the mind! There are some very good deals on the old models at the minute and they are a tried and proven performer.
Regards,
Dave

Which is the reason I'm considering it, same as the finesse certate as well.
