Rod/reel balance,how do you know.

I can sort of feel when a outfit is balanced but is there a formula or a way of holding the rod reel at a certain point to see if it's balanced.
Thanks.

Depends on how you hold your rod when you fish. I like to hold the rod above the reel stem part, so I look for the balancing point there. But in the end, its all about how it feels in your hands, some people prefer differently balanced combos for different purposes.

Question

Thanks mate.
I find the balance point is about 2 inches forward of the reel stem.
Just a eg; I have a protactic rod with a 2000 caldia kix which felt perfect,I sort of got bored of this combo so I put a 2500 Luvias on the same rod which is about the same weight and the combo felt out of balance
Very strange.
