Post 4Lbs & 10 Lbs Fireline wear

My thoughts on fireline were formed over 4 years using 10lb fluro & 4 lbs grey.

10lb fluro:I found that the extra visability wasn't that much help when there is a lot of reflection even when wearing quality sunnies, It's very strong, i've landed a couple of large stingrays at Walpole.
4lb Grey: My favourite line, i have 1 reel that has 4 year old line on it, the line was reversed after 2 years. When the line started to look very worn on the last few metres, I tested it and could break it quite easily, By removing 5-6 metres and retesting I found the line was breaking at almost the same as a new piece of line.
Knot strength:Initially tried using Bimini twist double, however due to a lack of skill these knots often broke were the main line joined the Bimini, To avoid this I revereted to a plaited double with excellent results.
I now use the bimini having mastered tying it.
A thought on extending usable life, After using both ends, try making a long cast with a heavy sinker, Cut the line tie a double in the line on the spool, do the same to the end of your new line, then join both using a double uni knot.Fill the spool, reverse the line and repeat the process, from then on you only need to replace line back to the double.
