Pixy for Jacks?

Yo,

Has anyone had any experience with the new Pixy? its gunna be used exclusively on FRESH WATER Jacks and Barra, now i know its a finesse reel, but will it handle a decent fish? Looking to seat her on a Steez Topgun and spool with 15lb braid, throwing lures like Cherry Bloods etc..........I look foward to your replies

Cheers

The Pixy is a finesse reel. For its 4kg drag maybe enough to land a decent fish, but the spool capacity is quite small (8lb/100m). So for your purpose I'd say dont bother.

If you want sth smaller and lighter maybe think about the alphas R, also 4kg drag but has larger spool capacity, and you can use it in saltwater.

For considering the purpose, you won't throw very tiny lures to jack or barra, will you? So the pixy's ability to throw tiny weight is not nessesary.

Cheers.

Mate if you want sth that can throw lighter lures as well as handle your purpose, maybe you can think about the calcutta conquest 100.

DC model is also availble, and much pricy. Just forget about it if you already know how to use baitcaster.

Personally I am not a fan of shimano or round profile but they are highly rated in Asia.

I have the alphas type r and while I have never tried the new pixy my alphas does feel to light when casting heavier lures like cherry bloods even when on heavier rods however anything from 7 grams or less it's perfect

never again will I use a daiwa baitcaster.
Thats shimano's area
I suggest a shimano chronarch D, may get hated for saying this but a part of me actually like the look of the new chronarch.

try the steez 103.
a jack isn't gonna peel a million yards of line off you, just a little bit, but heaps quick until he cuts you off and 4 kilo's of drag should be fine. dont forget your thumb can give you a hand.
i rate my steez for throwing light lures. its awesome, and like you mentioned, freshwater only like the pixy.
i also have the alphas type r which is a machine, again only 4kg's of drag, so i dont see the drag being to much of an issue.

cheers

Don't see why you couldn't use a PX68 for jacks and barra. I reckon just upgrade the drag and you shouldn't have any problem. Besides, the PX68 has magforce Z, so it has more line capacity. I'd get a Metanium DC or a Calcutta Conquest 100DC or an Antares AR, but your a daiwa fan.

Yup, that seemed a bit strange to me when Daiwa released the new Pixy.

I was thinking why they put magforce z instead of v this time? They have had a diagram before showing the best cast weight suitable for the 3 different break systems, and the mag V was for lighter lures.

And now for the new pixy which they claimed for finess and ultra light lures they put a mag Z on it......
