Set the hook

Hi all,
Yesterday, I went out for a quick fish and it was frustrating . This is because when I feel the fish is picking my SP of the bottom, I strike it and try to set the hook and miss a lot of fish. So my question is when do you set the hook after u feel the fish is picking up ur lures? Or just wait till the fish hook themselves?

Thanks

i lift the rod as soon as i feel the tap .... dont have to rip his lips off or anything just lift the rod enough to hook him.

that said you will always miss a few, short takes small fish etc...

+1. Set the hook as soon as I feel that 'tic' through the line!

sounds like your discribing the classic "short take" ie just biting the tail.

unless your fishing gulp or somthng like it dead sticking may not be the best option. i still try and set the hook without moving the bait too much, who knows the little hope you get by doing that may just be enough to get him to bite properly....

or they might just be small fish pecking at it .... move on.

Feed out more line , let the fish take it without much resistance.
