Why 2506/2004 size?
Just wondering why you'd choose a 2506 sized reel over a 2500 and a 2004 over a 2000?
Is a slightly larger surface area on the drag the only real benefit? I'm fishing with 2500's and can't fault them. So should I bother looking at a 2506? Cheers |

For pushing 2-4lb flouro, yes. Otherwise don't worry about it, aside from less start up intertia to protect knots busting on sudden lunges it doesn't make any real difference.

Makes sense. Considering the drag on the reels I use is great to begin with it's probably not an issue. So for 4-6lb braid your saying there's no real advantage for me?

2506 is lighter than the 2500 sized reels also has better casting than the smaller sized spools which is an advantage. Eliminates the need for large amounts of backing as well due to the depth of the spool and capacity.

In other words aside from the nicer start up on lighter lines, which can be pretty important but in your case won't seem to matter as much, it wont make any real difference to your fishing. |

Your right, Id forgotten those sizes weigh slightly less.
As for better casting, you'll definitely have to explain how the shallower spool helps. I'm sure it'll sound obvious but right now I can't imagine how the two spools might differ when it comes to casting?? The line passes over the same diameter spool lip doesn't it?? |

As the line is cast out, it has a tendancy to stay coiled as it was set on the reel which results in a sigmoidal shape as the line leaves a spool. With the larger diameter spool, larger coils are formed and thus the sigmoidal shape of the line has a longer period when cast, more closely resembling an optimal straight line.

Ok, I just figured the spool Lips were the same diameter with just a shallower depth to the spool? Because if that is the case then the coils of line will be identical..

My mistake, I was comparing the 2500 spools to the 2000 and 1000 sizes. In this regard the 2506, 2508 and 2500 would be identical with different line capacity, weight and drag maximums.

So the answer being line capacity?

No. The answer would be weight.

"sigmoidal shape" damn thats the buisness!
Line capacity surely must also weigh into your decision also. Why do you need more than 100+ meters of line for finesse fishing? 1 spool of braid on 2 reels, beautiful. For reasons I cant explain the 2506 sizes seem to be my favoured size.
