trout down south

Drakes Brook weir is definitely worth a try for trout. The water level is over 100% with lots of interesting area underwater at the edges. It has been stocked again but the colour of the water at present is cloudy: The best bait is local knowledge...but thats hard to catch too

Thank's for the "heads up" Gary. I hope to chase a few soon. I might even have a go at that thing people call "fly fishing" (how is it going Richo??)

It was good to see you in the shop a few days ago and I will keep an eye out for you on the water, I'll try to get a bit of that "hard to catch bait you talk about".

Cheers Craig

hmmmmm it's going to be an interesting spot next week on fly, as long as the water clarity picks up.

Hey Gary, Kurt and I will be down there next weekend for the opening of the trout season (I just have to tell Kurt he's coming as he doesn't know yet!) and there are some good browns in there this year.

Am looking forward to seeing you down there.........

Very Slowly, in fact so slow that the rods still in its cover - I pull it out and think what the hell and put it away, not that im not keen as mustard to give it a go cause I am big time, all the obvious concerns, fly in the eye, ear or nose but as per usual I`ll be picking plenty of brains and making sure Ive got it completely sussed for when I do get down there.

Craig I think you need to get yourself a flyrod, at worst they look great leaning against the wall collecting dust.

All this talk will nearly have me out in the yard this evening.

cheers

you did far better than i did at logue brook last year. One fish from three trips.

when we arrived there the water level was absolutely abysmal (and apparently it is worse this year)

and well, although the trout was 36cm, it was in the worst condtion I've seen one in the wild. For a moment I didn't know whether to release it or put it out of its misery and feed it to a crow.

skinny, Lots of bite marks over its body and a generally sickly colour.

G'day Guys,
I'm keen to get into a few trout.
Can anyone help with some directions/maps/sites to check out to some of these places (logue brook/drakes brook weir). Hoping to get down next weekend !
Dan

- What a fine site that skyview WA is !, just had a look, and gathered my bearings !!
Am I right in assuming that Drakes brook weir is the weir to Lake Navarino?? Hell, I hope it's a bit fuller than it looks in that skyview pic, can hardly see the water !!!.

Lake Brockman looks like pea soup !!

also
Any fish in Lake Moyanup or Samson Brook Dam ?

probably not the best thing to mention Sampson Dam, as there are a lot of annoyed sweetwater fishos in relation to that issue.

Basically, the dam was stocked and listed as a trout fishing dam for recreational fishos by the fisheries department.

Then Alcoa mine nearby, put a conveyor belt over the waterway, and the water corporation ban all access to the waterway due to safety concerns.

Perhaps the department of the Environment could explain to me why mining is allowed next to a water supply in the present environment?

A$%$HOLES

anyhow you can't get vehicular access to it anyway.
Dreakesbrooke is the weir dam near Navarino (waroona dam)

Never heard of lake Moyanup, but you never know... a lot of the waterways hold trout and perch without great public knowledge.

good luck

From what I can see on the map, Moyanup is the water behind drakes brook weir (between waroona dam and the town of Waroona)

That sucks about Sampson Dam !!, I thought there were some extra roads on the aerial photos that weren't on the map !, are there any points where you could park and hike in (not too far ?)
- Another private fishing waterway for the lucky few (Alcoa employees). I heard stories when I was over east that the water board employees had fishing days out on Lake Burragorang (Warragamba Dam - Sydneys main water supply) catching 10lb + trout in a "no public access/no fishing" zone !

Ho well, looks like a bit of exploring is in store !

big white ones with padlocks (now covered because certain "keen" fishos were using bolt cutters on them).
And it's a long walk from there, and someone will normally pick you up and drivbe you the whole way back again.

B$#$%#$%ds!!
