Is this fixable

It feels pretty solid around the area that snapped.

This is the tip section of a 3 piece rod.

i aint no rod builder or repairer mate but that looks pretty dam hard to fix. all the best though

Hey there,

I had a gillies travel fly rod which broke on my first outing ( it thought i hit a bird), but turns out that the blank must have been hit prior to my purchase. Anyway, the guy at the shop wouldnt replace it because gillies apparently stopped making that model.

Anyway, i was pretty pissed and the guy offered to try and fix it. What he did was clean up both ends with sandpaper etc and found another rod piece from another rod which he used to wedge in between the two pieces. Now he didnt epoxy it for me and ive been a bit hesitant to do it myself... So nothing has been done.

...My point being - that your broken rod probably could be fixed the same way... But hey - im no expert - so i could potentially be sending you on a wild goose chase. And i cant exactly verify if the method that was recommended to me actually worked or not - because i have never used the rod since.

I hope this helps - but probably doesnt give you an exact yes or no.

I wouldnt fix it you could probably sleve it but it's probably easier to buy a replacement tip, what brand was it??

Just get a one hundred dollar note and wrap it tightly around the break in the rod, get some sticky tape and place a small amount on the hunjie to keep it from unravelling. Then pop it in a rod tube and send it to Perrie, I'm sure he would get it back to you in one piece in no time;

On a more serious note, I would
1- Remove the guide close to the break and remove and clean up the thread and epoxy.
2-cut both pieces with a dremmel to create a nice joint, get a piece of fibreglass from an el cheapo or old rod which fits snuggly inside the break, (you may need to sand it to get a tight fit on both sides).
Coat it in epoxy and put it all together.
3- once it's dry, wrap some thread over the joint aprox 15 mm either side of the joint.
4- re attach the guide using thread and expoxy.

I've done that was broken up near the tip this way and it's held together fine and isn't really noticeable.
