Rod for a kayak
Hi; I've been thinking of buying a rod for use in the kayak, one thats a bit shorter in length to get under trees etc. I have just bought a G Loomis TSR862-2 GLX for the flats so would prefer something a bit smaller, around 5'5 to 6'5". The only problem is, it would have to be able to double up as a bass fishing tool so would have to have a bit of butt power. Reel is a 2500 Shimano. Any suggestions?

Hav a look at some of the St croix rods. Also there is a samurai blank that is shorter too... A couple to keep you searching

6'6" SMITH LTD Bayliner, fantastic little rod for boat use, I can't fault it.

another rod to throw into the mix would be a loomis sjr720 imx (6ft), i've been eyeing this rod for a while now to use for snags in tight little waterways from the yak.
cheers mike. |

Have a look at the Gladiator Crocodile 4ft Yak rod, Line class 6-10kg at around $50 or the Gladiator Cape Yorker Casting 4ft rod, Line class 8-10kg at around $95. They are both designed specifically for use on Yaks. They are a pretty tough rod and will fit perfectly into the rod holders on Yaks.
Cheers Mim

I use 2 Pfleuger rods out of my yak and no dramas with these being 7ft long. You dont want to short out of a yak as you lose fish control in my opinion.

the trions are slow-ish actions so i find they load up nicely for the higher angles when kayak fishing.
But, I would be (and am) looking into the lemax range. They are light weight but are powerful. The 6' red sword might be an option? http://www.lemaxpro.com/rs.htm |

Not sure if this is much help. But I ordered the G.Loomis BLANK from DohDohDohDohDohDohDohDoh, SJ6400IMX Slate 5'4" 2-6 1/64-1/8 . I am going to build the yak rod fishing "under" docklands. Just ordered yesterday, hopefully can get it this week. Special clearout at $227. Been fishing docklands two time on the yak, and I am getting sick of the megabass hitting those plyons
