Daiwa 2500R question ...

Hey dudes, is a 2500R Daiwa reel too big for breaming ? Will it sit ok on a bream stick or will it look and feel a bit dorky and big ?

Obviously you can purchase RCS spools i.e. 250X to make it more suited for breaming but discounting this fact, for now, will a 2500R be ok as a 'bream outfit' - not necessarily to be used as a dedicated bream stick.

I went to the local DohDohDoh and they did not have any on the shelf so I could not test for size and balance myself. Any help appreciated, thanks !

Which daiwa are you looking at getting? It mainly depends on the weight in order to make it feel balanced on a "bream stick".
But if you ask me. A 2500R size daiwa would be a all rounder IMO. But in saying that, it shouldn't feel too out of place in the breaming arena.
hope this helps,

I use a 2500size daiwa exceller for a fair bit of my breaming and imo it sits nicely on my 2-4kg rod, does feel a bit big on my 1-3kg stick though.
all depends what rod you stick it on, but the reel itself should be fine as a bream reel.

2500 size is probably the max size for bream. anything beyond 2500 is too big. i owned a pflueger supreme 2500 and used it for breaming, it really depends on what type of rod you put it on. people use steez 2508 for breaming, so your fine with the 2500.

as said earlier it depends on what reel and also what rod you are putting it on.

A 2500 size advantage will be much different to a 2500 size steez, and so even though both are a 2500 size, they will be completely out of place with eachother.

Always best to mix and match until you find a combo that balances well and that you are most comfortably with.

Personally, I use 2004 size spools and 2500 size for breaming and have found to have absolutely no problems. I prefer them over 1000 reels, which are just too small in my opinion

A Daiwa 2500R is a 2500 sized spool on a frame with 3000 sized gearing, so IMO over the top for breaming.

Depends more on the weight and the rod you are using it with.
A luvius 2500r weighs in at 245 gr which is in between a sol 2000 and sol 2500.
A certate 2500r wieghs in at 260gr which isn't that heavier either but wouldn't suit or make the best some of the very light bream rods.

They aren't too big but you would need to choose a rod to balance.

If its only or mainly for bream I would choose something lighter. It will be more fun to play with.
If your looking at it to fish for bigger fish with heavier lines and rods then the 2500r will likely do the job fine.

Thanks guys, I managed to have a play with my mates 2500R Bradia and size-wise it's fine .. so I'm going to get it. If anything it was about the same size as his 2500 Soare BB which is a very very nice, smooth reel, but I have decided to go Daiwa for the first time.

This is not for dedicated breaming, so it should be fine .. should sit well on my 1-4kg t curve flight !

Maybe a RCS 2506 spool later on .. but don't really see the point for $130+. Will let you guys know what the reel is like.

Why don't you get the 2500? It's a perfect size for an all rounder. 2500R is usable, but overkill in most situations imo. Bradia is a nice reel, but 2500R is a little big for a 1-4kg bream rod. 2500R is more suited to 10-20lb lines.

I like the 'R' at the end of it No really, just want something that is 'in the middle' as I have reels that are smaller and bigger than this size already.

Weight wise, it will balance out the t-curve flight very well due to the short butt - I find anything less than 240-250 grams makes the rod uncomfortable to use - too tip heavy.

Size wise, I am suprised it is almost identical to a 2500 shimano (except for bigger line cap).

BTW, this is not solely a breaming outfit. I have a v-system 20 for that. Just want to see what all the fuss about Daiwa is =p

Thanks for all the help guys.

Too late with this but I would be surprised if the 2500R Daiwa is same size as a 2500 Shimano. The 2500 Daiwa's I have seen are closer to the 3000 Shimanos and the 'R' would be bigger with the 3000 body. In my experience the 2500 Shimano is close to a 2000 Daiwa. Admittedly based on a relatively small comparison group and not including the Higher end Daiwas and Shimanos.

Great looking reel though.
