I use 4lb or 6lb.. I'm no pro, not by any stretch but 2lb seems a little insane? :-P

if ur willing to lose a lure or to. go the 2lb. i fish 2lb straight thru a fair bit and hav only been busted off by jacks. if u want to save a bit of money, get some sunline 6lb leader. really thin stuff and u will struggle to get busted off on that. good luck.

Hey Mate
I only use 2lb and 3lb, and lose very little. I am sure since i drop down from 4lb i have had far more fish on then before. The trick is to use good quality 2lb leader, dont buy cheap stuff, i doesnt tie as well, Also use a uni when tying to your lure this is the strongest knot for terminal, and is easy to tie. Also you can leave a little loop in it for a better action, when you get a fish on it will slide down and tighten, but use your fingernails and pull the loop back out. You ony want a small loop only 2-3mm in diameter. Good luck with the 2lb, you should have heaps of fun using it. Regards Dan |

Or you could try what the American bass fishermen do and use 65lbs braid to target 4lbs fish, you get to skull drag them across the surface like they were a skinny pop....

ahhahaha nice post stew3074. why let the fish fight when you can rip it and skip it across the water.
i normally use 4lb braid but 2lb doesnt sound too bad, i think its worth a shot |

around pylons and pontoons you really want some abrasion resistance - i'd say 2lb is getting rediculous - 4lb is even a little light for me.
around crusty pontoons and pylons i usually use 8lb Sunline V-Hard and even then get cut to shreds pretty quick sometimes |

3lb is my confidence leader. I find it's actually got a heap of pulling power, and providing you tie a good knot, you won't lose too many fish. Around heavy structure I'd probably step it up a bit, but only to maybe 4-5lb.
I dont use 2lb very often, I tend to use 3lb Unitika Night Game instead which is a super thin and supple FC and generally the thickness of 2lb in other brands. Really, it's the diameter of leader that makes the most difference. If you're using a low quality 3lb leader, it may still be as thick as a 4-5lb of a better quality line. Spend the extra and get a nice fine diameter with a high breaking strain.

4lb is plenty, I targeted trevally and queenie on the gold coast for a while and got em all in on 4lb leader, biggest being close to 60cm, one even wrapped me around a rusty old pipe for a while
. your still gonna lose fish but they would have to pull pretty dam hard![]() cheers heath

Easy to tie-yes, but not the strongest. Check the Knot Wars I referred to in another thread and see which knot won... Cheers, Alex |
