Okuma Epix EFS-20

This look to be a nice reel for fishing the bream on. Also use in the kayak and boat.

Some questions for guys using them. How are they, good with braid, strong, good with salt water.

I will 90% use it with Soft plastics and or hard bodys. Will this be ok for Flathead and Snapper(pinkys). If i was to hook into a larger fish snapper or large salmon etc would it cope fine?

I'd most likly be running 4-6lb fire line.

they look the goods. Any thing else to look similar to this reel. I wasn't that happy with the Diawa (samiri 7i, not when i paid a similar price for it as i will for the Okuma)

all that said the diawa was nice for what it was (base of the diawa range)

I've got an EFS-40 I use for general purpose spinning. I love it. For my hardly earned dollars you can't beat them for value.

The only negative that comes up on this site a lot is the weight. They are quite heavy compared to the Shimano's in the equivilent size.
If you type in a search (look at top of page) for epix efs, you'll find a plethora of threads that answer your question.

They are a little heavier the some others, but don't wory about strength! The 20 has the same body as the 30 but a smaller spool. last year I caught a 23 kg Jewfish on 4 kg line off the beach with a Epix EB 30! It was faultless! and is still as good as new!

Yup

Yeah,

I have an efs20 and so far its pretty good. Although I havent really used it extensively it is great for breaming and general purpose use. However, like the others say its weight is (n) and its kind of big. A smaller body would be better as it somehow makes my stella rod seem 'pregnant' For my next reel I'd go a step higher and look at the Shimano Stradic or the smaller sized reels.

ps, i thought they were good looking reels too, but after seeing some other higher quality reels, well....it just doesnt seem as sleek and elegant with its long body design and its size, but thats just me!!

Thay are not a bad little reel for the money.

One thing I found with mine was you had to watch out for corrosion on the spool. A couple of time I have had to strip the line off and clean the spool.

The last time I did it I put a light coat of Carnuba (sp?) wax on the spool. Hopefully that will stop it from happening again.

Cheers

Jethro

For the price though its better than the equiv. daiwa and Shimano? I mean i know there is better reels but if there 3 times the price its a bit hard to compare them.

I am looking at his reel due to its price and what i thought would be a better reel than the equivalent priced daiwa etc.

I am looking at using it on a very light rod so the weight might be a issue but if its $200 cheaper i will find a way to get used to it
