G loomis recommendations for hardbodies
Hi; I am thinking of buying either a G Loomis TSR862-2GLX or SR842-2GLX. I currently fish with a 15 year old Thunder Rods Spincaster 3 carbon rod which, although very light, is a bit of a broomstick and I suspect might have cost me a few fish over the years with pulled hooks. My concern is whether these two rods would provide significant advancement in terms of a) casting ability - I am using mainly small hard bodies like Bassday sugardeeps and Kangoku shads with 4-6lb braid; and, b) hooking ability. Any clues?

both of those are up there with best hb rods on the market, have used both and cant praise them enough. 842 is a little bit slower though so if your worried about pulling hooks maybe thats the rod to go for, it also doesnt come with REC guides, fairly certain they are Sic Titanium's.
For around that price look at the Smith Dancing Bream series as well, jap made rod so has the standard slow taper that most jap rods do but enough balls down low to muscle fish when needed hope that helps a little bit |

I have not used the TSR but I have the SR842-2 GLX, and I use it for hards and it is great. If you do a bit of looking you will see that it is one of the most highly recommended hardbody rods ever.
It does have sic guides but I don't think that they're ti. I also use a Daiwa Light Rock Fish which is pretty sweet too and prob slower again. Then again I can't go past the custom Miller ![]() For the money you're looking to spend you will be happy with anything you choose. Gus. |

IMO the SR842-2GLX is the ultimate rod for fishing hards!
