Sounds very interesting... JDM Shimano influenced Loomis rods? I touched a few super expensive JDM Shimano rods when i was last in Japan, which are on a par with the best of the JDM Daiwas. Might have to start saving my gold coins.

...and this is something that I can't make sense of. Their bream rods at the moment, im my personal opinion, are very very average at best.
There jdm stuff looks unreal on paper (weight wise, taper selection for models, components etc). Why not bring it in? There is no question that there is a market for it with the way that tournament fishing is going. |

i don`t get the japanese rods compared to ours ,in length & weight & power rating etc, most of our rods are around 6`6 & up even for light lures & 7`6 is suggested for flats where the lightest lures would be thrown,OK the extra distance factor comes into play, but when looking at say Megabass rods for example the lightest power ratings F0 rods are around 6`& when you start getting into longer rods, the power , line & lure rating goes way up.If anyone can decipher what i`m babbling on about i would appreciate it if they could explain why this is so?I could be totally wrong as well,it`s just i`ve been looking for another rod lately for the sole purpose of throwing small hard bodies & i like to use a 7` & up rod

I fully understand where your comming from as well. I reckon its maybe because their rods are so specific for use.
Seems the japs arent really a fan of all rounders. Its either a rod at the 6'0 mark, or something super long. This makes sense when you think about it, as from a boat a 6 footer is rarely not capable of casting as far as you need to unless your on the flats, in which case there super long 7"5 plus rods come into play. I have been looking for a while for something at the 7 foot mark for throwing small crankbaits and plastics to double as both a ul rod for bream and a trout stick. I want something similar to a bayliner but a bit less floppy so that i can throw mid sized crankbaits if i want to and not be restricted to only having it as a one use wonder. The best looking rod i have managed to come across is the major craft zaltz rock fish in the 7' with the tubular tip. A bit crisper than a bayliner, (in theory it should be anyway), full sics, rated to 6lb and only 87 grams it looks the goods. Best part is its only $240 to my door. Also what are the pros & cons of a solid tip Vs tubular tips

I'm still not completely sure to be honest, every time I ask it never seems to get answered haha. My basic understanding is that solid tips are softer in fold, whilst tubular tips are stiffer/crisper?
From what i have been told by the guys at plat, the tubular tip model of the zaltz, for example, is stiffer than the tip of a bayliner (which is as i said before, what i am basically wanting a better balanced, crisper version of, is a solid tip). The solid version of the zaltz is softer again. Then he went on a tangent and started about the metal fibers in the blank of a bayliner and explaining that that is why they have such an even curve despite being such a fast action. Hope that helps a bit, but hopefully someone with a bit more rod knowledge (*cough* shortlight) or a jap tackle nut (*cough* kev *cough*) could help clear it up more definitively. |

...should add that what i mean is solid tips are not only softer in fold, but can cop more abuse fold wise- pro
tubular tip is crisper, better for working lures etc but not as robust? i think we are pretty much in the same boat nev |

Yep getting that whole tip/action selection right is hard from overseas and especially when they have such fish specific rods. I was very happy and possibly lucky with my latest purchase from overseas, coz i wanted a stiffer blank that was closer to a true 2-4kg and 7' its hard.

The SMITH Dancing Bream should cover all the aspects you are after... or even the Dancing Squid......

The dancing breams are pretty pricy and rated a bit heavy for my liking. Dunno how they would go running 2lb and the reel seat (as tossy as it is to complain about something like that) just doesn't sit right in my hand (i fish with 3 fingers in front, and little finger behind reel stem).
Never heard of the dancing squid? Link? Either way if its up there with the db price wise i would rather for out 240 for a rod ive never felt than 500 plus |

...and should probably add that what WOULD be perfect for me is the glx tsr862-2. And in getting back to the topic, they are going to be phased out so EVERYONE SELL ALL OF THERES SO I CAN GET MY HANDS ON ONE!!
