4, 6 or 8lb flourocarbon leader will be fine in most situations depending on the structure you are fishing TJ.

Linesystem
Momoi
Sunline
Seaguar
Nitlon
Varivas
Yamatoyo
Daiwa

all have flouro that tie nice knots and is supple yet abrasion resistant.

Even the old faithfull Berkley Vanish is satisfactory, but many on these forums will have a favourite because....... There will also be a few brands I have missed. Very occasionally a faulty spool will reach the store shelves and the brand gets an undeserved reputation for crap line

Find a sample in a tackle store that feels OK when you tie a knot and remember that not all spools of leader have the same volume.

cheers

10x isn't fluorocarbon, and imo fluorocarbon is a definite advantage.
give the nitlon dfc a go, good product and comes in relatively big spools, as far as FC lines go, for pretty cheap

Dare I say it... But I use Surecatch fluro leader in 4,6,10,16lbs mostly because I get it cheap, yet at the same time I've never had many issues with it at all. The very occasional weak 1-2m which I've even had with Linesystems fluro before

I used to use the berkley vanish (non leader) line. I found it was a little stretchy and in hindsight don't really like it. Pretty sure the stuff I have now is Yamatoyo it comes in 100 or 150yd spool(don't remember) for about $15. I refuse to pay 50c per yd for proper leader. The stuff I have is 6lb as that is the lowest they had at the time but it may be lower now. It has bugger all memory no stretch and pretty resistant to abrasion. I caught a 49cm flathead the other day and there was only a small amount of abrasion on the leader.

Been using leader under canning bridge and been busted off a few times using a 6lbs leader. This is manly from the knot strengh should use a heavy leader or striaght briad?

Might be your knot. Does the leader curl up when you pull the knot tight? If so you need to lubricate the knot with a bit of spit before you pull it tight. This would certainly cause your your knots to be weak.

P.S. what knot are you using? I use a uni to uni for leader knot and a loop knot that I am certain weakens the line but I haven't had problems.

6lbs is still light, but in a good FC pretty abrasion resistant
tie a good knot with 6lb FC, something like a twisted leader knot
then lock up your drag against a stump or something in the backyard and you'll be surprised how hard you can actually pull b4 it snaps
8lb would be the absolute tops id use and that'd be a last resort

ps dont us straight braid

I use 6lb basic FC most of the time $20 for about 300m. Not a leader Flurocarbon but does pretty well. I like Yamatoyo fighter better but last I looked it was $20ish for 50m.

knots can be a big issue. I changed from fireline to suffix performance 6lb and had all sorts of trouble getting the leader knot to hold. Finally changed knots to slim beauty and problem solved. Different braid and leader combinations seem to respond to different knots.

On the weekend was fishing a suffix performance 10lb with a cheap 10lb mono cause the FC was on the bench at home) and slim beauty was breaking at the leader knot at every snag. A double uni worked better.

Trial and error to see what works for you.

i normally use 4lb fc rock on the flats and around structure normally use 6lb vanish, flurocarbon leaders are my favourite for divers and plastics, but for surface mono is the go.

You should have stocked up on some nitlon a long time ago mate seeing how they raised the price from $15 to $30 now, I just go with vanish now and when I'm low on cash I just settle for grandslam
