$400 to fit a motor?

I am new to this and need some advice

a dealer wants $400 to fit a motor to my boat.

I cannot imagine what work would take that many hours or what parts they supply for that price. I am no mechanical genius but what are they going to do for that?

help!

Gary

You would be surprised at wot comes into a outboard Gary..But it does depend, what size motor is it, brand, 2 or 4 stroke, and is it a forward control boat, or a centre console?

Yeah, Gary seem that the Company is looking after you well with the motor prices its a great price and the cables seem well priced aswell, maybe just see if they can knock a few dollars off the installation maybe $50 or 100 bucks... but if its a big company they might need to charge higher installation cost because of the over heads... the cost or running business,s at the moment are pretty high... In all man u have a pretty good deal hey... myabe just quiz them about the $400 and see how u go but dont stress you arent getting ripped off been a new guy to the trade.. I recon you have a pretty good deal specially on the motor price its a great Price.. Good luck in the future cobber....

Hi Browndog

im looking at boats too at the moment, and i was just wondering what diffence does it make in fitting the engines, whether they are 2 strokes or 4strokes...?

im looking at getting a polycraft 410 side console probably with a 40wxtl yammy electric start etc... what is a rough guestimate of fitting this? how much would the 40 4st be to fit??

thanks

Evan

Yeah hi Evan,
The cost is not really in the fitting its in the extra oils and stuff... It is not actually that much more. It depends on stuff like if the two stroke is oil injected or not and stuff like that...A standard fit up of a 40 2stroke on a new boats should be about $400 to 450 including cables..But as i mentioned before about depends on the style of boat aswell .Centre console are normally more as the cables and steering at some point go under the floor..and it takes sometime s alot of labour to lift the floor up and do this...Since i havent dealt with poly craft i would lke to get too involved in rigging up one...If its around the figure i mentioned about give to take a 100 i am sure the dealer is doing the right thing for you..Cheers hope it all goes well...
May i ask why you purchased a poly craft.. I only started hearing about them on here.. i have never seen one in my area... I only asking as they interest me as u guys seem pretty hung up about them... any information would be much appreciated.
Thanks
mark
