Arrow problems with fireline

hey guys on one of my spools for my regal 1500, i have 4lb fire line. when i first got it the knots where perfect and very strong, both the double and the double uni knot. i have only used it 2 or 3 times and had it for around 3 months didnt use it for a month or so and now every time i go to tie the double it snaps under very little presure right at the start of the knot i have been useing fire line for a few years now and never had this problem before. if anyone can help me figure out why this is happening it would be much appreciated.
cheers nat

Have you cut off where it keeps breaking and maybe abit more? I could be just that section of line is weak. with fireline i find if my leader knot breaks i can't tie another knot with that piece and i have to start with a fresh bit of line.

It's most likely your reel mate and how evenly it winds the line on, not necessarily the line itself. what reel are you using?

Try using the other end of the line, thats what I do when my Fireline gets like that. I now use Nitlon, around the same price but seems to be a better line.

check list.

is it packed on TIGHT ? (this will stop most wind knots)
as for the breakage issue, you will rarly get a bad batch. not that common but it does happen.

check all your guides, make sore that none are cracked of the rings have popped out letting the braid run on mare metal.

also sus that your line roller on the reel isnt jammed ? common cause of line breakage....

Big call on that last one, well done Pez, not many point that one out. If your roller doesn't spin freely you get friction and heat buildup at that point. At some point the line will wear a groove due to loaded particulate abrasion, and this ends up fraying, fluffing and damaging the line.

Had that happen on a couple reels, most noticeably on my Abu Cardinal, with Fireline. Furred up big, and broke a lot. Pretty much s#!t itself if a fish breathed near it after a while.
