Here's a couple of links mate to previous threads. The Reel Cleaning thread has been done to death dude but because your a newbie your forgiven for asking. In future you can use the search option, you will find tons of stuff for just about any question. Welcome to Bream master by the way.

Hello My Dear Bruce,

Welcome to the forum. I have been away from this forum for like 4 years and just returned today so .... welcome myself back too!!!

Care of reels are easy. After fishing if you plan to wash your reels, then make sure you fully tighten the drag before it goes under the tap, then wipe it down, undo the drag, if you want open it up to ensure water is not inside. If you don't plan to wash it, then give it a wipe down from salt etc.

With rods, just wipe it down with a wet rag or if you wish you can wash it down in the shower but becareful if it's a 2 piece and give the guides a good clean. Make sure you wipe it dry esp around the reel seats etc. Best place to store a rod is in a rod rack of couse!

Good luck,

...... Miss breamdreamer!!!! (yes, take a piece of advice from a girl!!!)

If you want them to last as long as possible I would go every use.
When washing though try to to use water with too much force, light spray and wipe off, you want to wash salt etc off not push it inside.
