Does and electric only boat have to be registered?
Quick question,
I have an old 3.5m tinny thats un-registered and I'm thinking of putting a leccy on it for some fresh water fishing. Am I correct in thinking that I do not have to register the boat if I'm only going to have an electric on it? cheers. ps. in Wa btw. |

As far as i understand ;
The WA dpi rules state that any object thats designed to float and carry someone must be registered if it has a transom or place or bracket specifically designed to fit a propulsion device be it electric or combustion. A tender that is attached to a main vessel is exempt but only in some situations as that tender might be 21 feet long and powered with a huge merc. A canoe that has a bracket fitted to mount an electric motor must be rego'd according to dpi and an ex member of this site once got pinged in a lecky powered canoe under windan bridge. He argued the point without success and ended up just paying the rego. He has never seen anyone else rego theirs to this day. We still have all the old paperwork somewhere but the rules changed again last year so i may not be totally correct now. I think a member of this forum works for dpi so he will be the best person to ask. Kd
