Reel for GLX

I have just bought a Loomis DSR820GLX rod. I have other Loomis rods partnered to Luvius 2004 JAP reels. Since these reels have been superseaded i have to look for other alternatives.
Was looking at what reel i should buy for this rod, any sugestions?

I have this rod also and have a 2508 Exist on it with 10lb Varivas SeaBass and it cast's far better than anything else I have used......don't worry about the line being 10 lb, I use it for throwing F3-5's at Trout and it is sensational.
{Casts 30% further than 2lb fireline garbage......}

The one problem you will have with this rod {I presume it has the Recoil guides} is that you will struggle to find a leader that will taper well through those Ti guides, Asso Hi-Stretch is the only leader I have found that doesn't tend to knot around the guide as it is very very thin per weight class.

With a rod of that quality, go the Exist.
Cheers.

What do you mean about having problems with the fluro leader. Don't all fluro leaders slide well?

Stripper Guide Tangles

Both reels are great on that rod. I use both the 2508 steez and 2506 exist on the GLX dropshots.

I recently had all my stripper recoil guides on my GLX dropshots replaced with SIC guides. Cost sweet FA and no more probs with them. The guy charged me $30 a rod including the FUJI guides.

Hope this helps.

the leader knot tends to get caught up on the stripper guides, so changing it to a fuji sic and even placing it a bit higher and reversing the guide will eliminate this problem...

Why can you not have a 3m leader to stop that.

Recoils are notorius for stripper guide tangles...It has to do with the different speeds that braid and whatever leader material you are using travels through the first guide.

To prevent this, get a ti framed sic put on and the trouble will fade away. Also, another way to help prevent this is to have you leader knot outside of the spool when you cast.

Bloody good guides though.

I use a TD Sol 2000 with 10lb Sunline Cast Away PE and Sunline 8lb Rock FC Leader on my DSR820. I put American Tackle SiC guides on it and a Super Sticker cork split grip handle. I only finished it the other day and so far so good. (Got a 28cm Bream using a Zipbait Rigge 46SP MDR )

in my travels i have found that if your leaded knot is wound on the spool then when you really try to punch out a cast, the leader can hook itself on the knot and the lure can come flyin back so its best to keep it just off the spool...

u change the guide closest to the reel, the stripper guide as it atrips and guide the line off the reel and through the following guides, this guide is what causes the problem, moving it up when its replaced also help, as does reverse mounting it

Do you mean reverse mounting a TiSic single footer? or a double footer. Haven't tried it but would have thought this would create further problems as the frames would act a little as a ramp the way the foot is angled. If the foot is in front of the guide wouldn't it make it easier to wrap around.
