Question japanese EGING rods and help..

G'day all, i am new to this great forum and i hope this is the right place to post this question .

I recently came across a dvd about japanese style squid fishing or eging and i am interested in putting together a setup like the ones used in japan for chasing squid..
does anyone know anywhere which sells these egi rods, or anyone with a second hand rod willing to sell?
or does anyone have an idea on what type of rod to use as a substitute for one of these rods?
they appeared to be around 8 - 8 1/2 foot and a fairly fast action i think???....

also does know what sort of reels are best used with these rigs??
i am very keen to learn more on the subject and any info or pics of setups would be much appreciated.

sorry about all the questions and thanks in advance.

egiing is awesome hahhaah. ok from my limited amount of knowledge on it

rods range from 7'6-9ft ish. the only places ive found that sell these kind of rods are fishhead in brisbane and somewhere in WA. there is a memeber here dont know his username but he is on a few others under honsu, i believe he is a distributor of etouh rods. i use a majorcraft raycal, but there are heaps of other jdm brands such as breaden, evergreen, olympic/graphiteleader, zenaq, daiwa (japan) and shimano (jap) might have missed a few as well hahahha. plat and bass.jp are your friends if you want a jdm rod

reel wise something with a finesse drag will do. most egiing reels are 2506/2508, c2500s,c3000s spool. im using a shimano sephia ci4 c3000sdh, which is a dedicated egiing reel.

in saying all that, all the dedicated gear isnt necessary but it does make a big difference esp in casting the egis and working them as well.
ill post some pics of my setup soon, have to go to a meeting now hahhahaa

some pics as promised

and some of my egis

Hi mate
where are you? Im the distributor of Etuoh Egi force squidding rods. If you're in Perth, they are a number of stockist atm.
You'll find the squid rods have a light fast action but do load up to a moderate action thus allowing the rod to absorb the squid lunging away.
Yes most are around 8ft and longer which helps in casting distance and working the jig.

As for reels I find Shimano 2500-3000 and Daiwa likewise. I run a Certate 2506 Finesse and Emeralda 2506. Some of my mates run Stella or Twinpower 2500-3000s. So really whatever balances with the rod.

Egi Equip

GLADIATOR have three sweet Egi rods in their range. All hi-modulus graphite. 7' - 8'10". Have heard very good things about them from certain shops.

gazza56, yep the dvd i have is Y.A.M.A.S.H.I.T.A,
I have found one rod i think it was called a nori or something like that, but i found it to be to light.

kingpin, are you talking about the gladiator rods that are made (or at least distributed) here in Australia?? that would be good because i was hopeing to find one locally so i can avoid paying for and worrying about freight and broken rod tips.

i will do some hunting and hopefully find one!

cheers

I've actually just gotten some of the Yamash.i.ta Noary Egi rods in, really nice and light, only like 110g! Nicely finished rods without being over the top, awesome actions too! Will be great for breamin' and other stuff too!
