Climbed it already but myself and Andrea are headed across The Great Central Rd to take in the sights next July so will be sure to get up and have another look before the closing of the climb.
l was 12 yrs old last time ,may take a bit longer now. l understand the cultural reasons for the closure but will still give it another bash when I'm there.Just don't point the "bone" at me for doing so.

I went in 1997 when there was Snow there!!! Most unforgetable thing ever climbed it and had a snow ball fight total weird. It is shame that other won't be able to experience something similar.

Didn't know so many had died doing it though

I think closing it is fair enough, because from what i heard their are (obliviously) no toilet facillities on the rock and people get up there and decide they need to relieve themselves, which simply ends up running off, and accumilating into nearby water holes, which the local people both drink and bathe from, resulting in them becoming sick.

They are the traditional owners off the place and shouldn't have to put up with sh1t like that.

not a very valid point when the so called traditional owners do the same thing and worse......should be open to the public for all to enjoy its a national icon and a huge tourist attraction to do the climb why not leave it be?

Wouldn't like to be in your shoes when your slapped with the associated fine that will no doubt be introduced if this is to come to fruition.

Speaking of sh!t l don't think I've heard a bigger mouthful from someone that "heard" a story about poo poo's and wee wee's on a national icon.l was twelve at the time when l climbed the rock and just cant seem to recall the mass exodus from people's ass's and bladders up or down the length of the one designated climb route.Give me a break.Do you think the resorts and out lying communitys are relying on a billabong for water use. They dont live on mars champ they still have running water ...its a miracle.Pretty sure the local indigenous stores all stocked coke even 24 yrs ago.
