Custom Rods

What combination of blank, guides, seat, grips etc would make your ideal rod(s) for bream fishing?

You may have different setup for HB's, SP's, flats etc

Interested to hear what people prefer.

Stu

Hmmm...so many different options. I would probablly stick with the australian series or rod blanks made by hastings, probablly in the 7foot length, single foot fuji titaniums, and fuji reel seat to suit, with some snazzy eva grips and bling surrounding it.

any good quality blank, hastings make a great 701ulf model
with fuji components, not a fan of the recoils though. GREEN CAMO grips hehe
put together by a great builder and you have a great rod for flats work.

Talk to Perrie Thomas from HOTRODS if your after a custom stick and he will definatly get you sorted with a neat little bream rod.

Wow Stu, where do you start with this one. I'm still playing with combonation 5 years after starting out with bream. I agree there are a few simple things I look for in a basic set though. My last success was a custom built sr842-2 built with Fuji Titanium Sic guides and the Fuji split grip. Best plastics rod I've used to date by far. Looking at a St. Croix from Perrie next, but would also like a 1-3, 6' ClearCut plus. Wicked little softies rod and great on small hb's.

Custom Bream Buster XF made at 7'2" with blue camo split grip made 1" longer than normal, titanium silicon stripper guide and recoils for the rest. Liked it so much I have 2.
Thats the beauty of a custom builder is you can make subtle changes to make the rods more personal.

Cheers, Dror

I have the same, Dror, made at 7'1" (to fit in planes) with short grip and a titanium silicon tip and am very happy with it...it even has a name, a.butcheri. Same rod, customised 2 different ways...that's what it's all about!

on a slighly bias'ed note,
im pretty addicted to my ULF as the moment, is the newer Pioneer 700-UL blank that Peter from GCCR designed last year, i just cant put them down, running 2 of them so far.

Fuji TATSG set is a given IMO rust proof, light as a feather, asthetically pleasing, exceptional performance and line flow.

as for grips, im still a fan of EVA and over a Fuji VSS seat its pretty hard to go past...

only variable i keep toying with is seat placement. as in distance from the butt...as mentioned and as most of my users on site will agree, one of the biggest factors in getting a custom just right is the reel weight. i ALWAYS ask what reel is going on what rod so i can balance it as close as possible, it a little easier using the balancing butts from either Matagai or FUJI but without them its all about seat placement

A good intermediate to high modulus (or compound mix) blank, I'd have to say 6'6" to 7' are my most used lengths. Type of fishing and budget will dictate blank choice most of the time. Split grip, titanium SiC's (Fuji TYSG...... I find the TATSG's a little too flexible), ergo-skeleton Fuji seat, EVA or composite cork.

Definitely echo Perrie's call on handle length: without additional balance weight the handle length and reel weight strongly influence how well balanced the rod is.

Thumbs up

I'm putting in a voted for the CTS with the RECs and the split camo grip - I've got the 2-6lb which is just an awesome all round rod, and am looking at the 1-4 for the next build.
These CTS blanks are SO fantastic - amazingly light and powerful. It is the one rod that when I pick it up I always think "OMG, how good is this!!!
I'm even putting the IMX842-2 on hold to go the baby CTS
