opinions for new rod
hey guys i was at my local DohDohDoh today spending my wage when i stumbled upon a rod i havent taken any notice of before, a Wilson TCS 2-8 pd 7 foot single piece spin rod... now i guess i havent taken any notice before because it was in the cheap section, but it seems to have an awesome action. and was bloody light... and for $99 it was very reasonable( i reckon)... now i resisted the urge to buy it, but am searching the net for info and cant find anything on them.. can any one tell me anything about them?
i plan on putting my daiwa tierra 1500 on it and making it my permanant bream outfit. at the moment i am using a live fibre texallium 2-4kg spin rod with a daiwa sol 2500 as my main bream set up, but its probably a bit of overkill for the small bream i catch... or any suggestions you guys have would be appreciated.. |

i have not herd of the TCS before, have you looked at a daiwa protactic at all? iv got a 7" 2-4kg and it has a really nice light action i think they retail about 109 to 120? they are a good option i wanted another rod and it seemed to be a nice inexpensive alternative as i didnt want to spond the bigger bucks on a nother t-curve flight or a protactic, and i think its action is just as good.
What ever you get just buy it from your local tackle store and suppport them rather then DohDohDoh and youll get better advise or at least get served. JMO

Bearessentials I recently underwent a similar process. I had, up until recently two sticks, one a Sic Stick and the other was a cheap daiwa magforce I got cheap cheap whilst on Holiday in Malaysia. I was pretty happy with the Strudwick, but wanted a replacement for the daiwa. I had no idea what I was looking for / at and had seen endless names bandied about in these pages. I even considered another Strudwick.
In the end I went with a live fibre blade n tails. Its light, responsive, and reasonably priced. Got mine for $170.00. I've matched it to a Diawa Exceller 1500 and 2lb fireline. I'm yet to give it a really good workout, but to date it looks like it has the makings of a great stick, so much so that I'm considering getting another

FireBlood - do you mean Daiwa Procaster. Protatics are a berkley rod around the $300 range. If you know where I can get one for $99 let me know.
There are some really nice rods around the $100-150 mark. Pfleugers standout for me. They have two in that price range Trion's and Trion Tournaments (I have a 2 piece one of these and it is very good). Penn Pinpoint? seem good too. Berkley have the Dropshots which I like too but prefer the Pfleugers. Shimano have Starlo stix and catana's and the Raiders aren't far from this price range. I like the action of the starlo stix but just can't get past the colour. Daiwa have procasters and Excellors and for a little more Tierra's. I think I have picked up the Wilson rods you are talking about and they feel pretty good too. And there are plenty that I've missed I also have a Hastings rod that I built myself and it is fantastic, much light in the tip than the lower price range rods but with plenty of grunt too. Much more expensive too, Blank alone was $130 and then you add all the other bits and time to build, but really satisfying when you finally christen it.

cheers guys, i was pretty keen on a Pfleuger trion, or an atc rod, but was just very impressed with this rod.. i still cant believe that i cant find any info on them off the net... i was looking at spending around the $200 mark, but there just seems to be such good value in some of these $100- $150 rods.. i have a terrible habbit of breaking rods, otherwise id be looking at a loomis or simalar.. and yes fire blood i do agree with buying from your local tackle shop, i was shopping for lures when i got carried away with rods...

Tried out my new Berkley Diablo, 7' 2", 2-4kg. Love the action, feels really responsive. I'm happy for $200.......
Maybe take a look at them. My second choice was a Shimano Raider. These can be had for $99 is you ring around. Bargain! Cheers, Pat
