Good idea.
The start line was a bit squashy for 66 boats.
Also some boats were heading upstream and some downstream.
Those heading downstream had to do a u-turn and navigate between a lot of boats still waiting for their start. With 10 seconds delay it was much safer.
Cheers,
Alex

I thinks it was good having the 10 sec intervals even though the speed limit at the start area is 5 knots. For other events with no speed limit I reckon it will make for much safer starts.

I agree, it was much safer and gave everyone a better chance to get into position.

I wouldn't like to be in amongst 66 boats if they all left within 2 seconds of each other, it would be chaos.

What are your thoughts on starts from various locations i.e, Donovans, sapling etc, with the competitors self marshalling?

Great idea for the Glenelg, who wants to waste 4 hours doing a return trip way up the river only to have 3 hours fishing time available.

It would also work well at Metung, 2 or 3 different start/finish locations would enable the smaller/slower boats to get up the rivers without having to cross the lakes and running the risk of capsizing or just not being able to get back to weigh in for safety reasons.

A start/finish area at Paynesville and another at Nicholson pub along with the one at Metung would be great, I doubt Bill would support te idea as the amount of extra work involved would be a killer.

The ten second delay was great idea. This certainly maintained a higher level of safety to all those involved.

The idea of a seperate marshalling point is also a great idea. This will give those who wish to fish the alternate locations who sometimes may not be able to access in a less powerful machine, the option.

It would create additional work for the Co-ordinators, but would make for some interesting fishing.

I have an idea

This is what I reckon guys

Everyone can start from their own house, fish whereever they want and then do their own weigh in and just email me their bags weight and I will stay home and collate all the info. One big honour system I'm sure it would work great

What ya think good idea?

Emo & Macka I like your ideas on the subject but wondered why it is that instaed of doing it that way competitors can not drive from the start point to the areas you speak of, not in the boats but rather in the vehicles and then launch from the areas you suggest.

I'm new to the whole tournie thing, only fished two classic events here in adelaide, so excuse my ignorance on the subject, but with The Donavans and especailly sapling, being so close by road yet so far by river could this not help in some way. Competitors would still leave at their designated number but by car instead of boat. Maybe even have all boats in the water for the start and then if you wish to fish the upper stretches you have to retreive and move off. Perhaps to make it so that you have to advise of your intent to do this at the briefing.

Anyway, by all accounts, sounds like it was a fruitful and well oil event so congratulations to all. Cant think of a better place to hold such things, but then again I'm biased as I think its a slice of heaven on earth

Insurance can be an issue with anglers driving cars and boats to different destinations etc

Having all people start in the one area adds to the strategy of the tournament as anglers need to assess whether making long runs to other areas is worth it etc.

Having anglers pulling boats in an out of the water to go to different destinations really opens the door up for cheating

Bill, I thought i might get some reactions. Never hurts to test the water, but should never make changes for change sake.

We started in 66th place on Saturday and didn't have a problem with it. Just meant we could relax a little bit longer.

Thats one thing I really like about places like glenelg, you could travel 3 hours up, make 5 casts for 5 fish and head back.
